Hey all,

Has anyone fished the Penn Warner lakes lately?  If so, which lake did you fish?  How'd you make out?  I'm going tomorrow morning for the first time in a long time.

Looking forward to responses!

No replies, but I'm posting again to this to give an update and possibly get some people who fish the lake to start talking a little bit.

The water was ranging from 79 to 81 degrees, depending on the section of the lake.  I caught about a 2.5 pounder in about 15 ft of water on a fluke that I was running at about 2 ft.  Didn't have any bites for a while, then I switch to a crankbait and slow rolled it right at the drop off from about 8 to 15 ft.  Hooked up to about 30 white bass and perch, but no go on the LM.  Boated a dink LM on a Sassy Shad around some shallow structure at about 9 when the wind picked up a little bit.  Just enough to put some chop on the water.  Then 1 more LAZY LM in about 4ft of water on teh shore side of a weed bed at around 10:30.  When I say lazy, I mean I thought I was hooked on weeds because the fish didnt move at all until I had it at the side of the boat.  He just kind of slurped in the Sassy Shad and held on for the ride.

I switched my game and beat up the edge of an open water weed bed with a crank and a tube bait.  No luck, only white bass and perch.  Then I drifted over the middle of the weed bed and dropped a 6 inch purple worm into the holes in the middle of the weed bed.  Got a few hits but no hookups.

Any pointers/info/comments/concerns......anything? Bueller.....Bueller.......

Just read this. I was on Van Sciver on Saturday. I was fishing off shore with a shakey head and dropshot set ups and did well. Look for spots that where the depth comes up to 10 feet. There are tons of them. White perch breaking all over the place. The bass are down deep. If fishing the bank we do well on t-rigged creature baits running down the deep side of the weeds. If they hit it will be near the bottom. 5 inch senkos also if the wind is calm. Let it go all the way to the bottom. Good luck!

I am also a member. I will be on Sciver tomorrow. It has been a tough year for me. lots of 3+ being caught but only one 4lber nothing bigger. Last year my buddy and I did very well with most fish pushing 4 lbs. Most success has been with flipping jigs in cover.

Thanks DelcoSol.  I'm hoping to get out of work a little early tomorrow and hit Sciver for a few hours until sunset.  If you go out early and think about it, post to let us know how you hit 'em?

Last weekend was our first out and we did alright.  Ironing out the kinks and getting back int othe groove really, but we caught a few.

Good luck tomorrow!

Rough day on sciver. Saw bait everywhere but only managed two between my buddy and I. Mainly was targeting deep structure. After hours of nothing we went to Manor for a little bit and again saw bait everywhere. We got two decent fish from the shallows (1-3 FOW) on the edge of the lillys. Fish came on spinnerbait, Chatterbait and drop shot. I may be there tomorrow or Conowingo.

Heading out tomorrow morning. I think there was/is a night tournament on Sciver tonight so my thought is they will rip that lake up during the tourny. Going to try some top water tomorrow and see how that works.

Good luck. My buddy got the skunk yesterday. Seems that the lake has really been turned off lately.

Just got off the water (Manor). We dropped the boat in at 5:30. Rough day on the water. Got 1 small LM running a spinnerbait about 9 ft deep around 9:15 and a few white bass. Only saw 1 other fish caught and that was on live minnows.

Good day on Sunday!  Dropped the boat in Sciver around 530am.  Bite didnt start until late though, which I thought was odd considering the full moon.  First bite came around 7am, which was a 4+lb smallie on a pearl white fluke minnow (picture below).  5-6 largemouth all around 2 lbs, a monster crappie.

Very fun morning.

8/10/14 - 4+lb smallie

Man that thing's a slob! I was also out on sunday and didn't have luck at all. I didn't get out until around 9:30 or so which may have been the problem. Looks like upper Sciver near the container? I saw on BCAC that last tues night a guy caught a 5lb11oz smallie! All of the algae on the water is new this year. I didn't see it at all last year.

Thanks! Middle Van Sciver on the on the point by the bridge to Lower Van Sciver.  Caught 3 right there.  That smallie, and 2 LMB, 1 was about 1.5lbs and the other was about 2.5lbs.  We've fished that lake for years and that was the first smallie we've pulled from the lake.

5lb11oz smallie is a hell of a fish!  Are you a BCAC member?

The algae bloom was scumming everything up but the fish didnt seem to mind it.  Where were you fishing?  We beat up the southern shoreline of of MVS with no luck, then we got to the point at the outlet to LVS and caught those 3. Caught a few more around 10ish on spinnerbaits on the eastern shore heading up to UVS, where the docks are.

I am not a BCAC member. Most of the smallies we have caught there have come from UVS on the bank with the container on it. I will be out on Sunday. Might hit up Morrisville.

I havent been to UVS much. Stupid question. Where is Morrisville Lake? I hear people talking about it but I know of Van sciver and Manor.

If you're going towards Manor from sciver you pass manor then make a left going towards Mealey's. you follow the road around through the construction then make a right just past the pink junkyard.

OK I know where you are talking about.  What is that lake like?  Looks small from the map.  Electric only? What are the depths like?  I think PWC only has hydro maps for Sciver and Manor.

Posted

It's the smallest but it's not too bad. However, it is the deepest with lots of contours and structure. I think I have seen depths near 30 feet. There are also shallow areas. Gas engines are OK but its a no wake lake.

I hit the container shoreline yesterday in UVS for the first time.  Caught a 2lb large mouth but nothing else.  That end of the lake looks great tho.  I'll definitely be fishing that more often.  Caught 3 fish total yesterday.  2 LM and 1 pickerel.  Slow day, but it seemed like everyone we talked to had a slow day.

Were you out this weekend?

I didn't realize you guys were posting on here. Very cool. I was out on Tuesday with my son on Van Sciver. We got 7 he got most of them throwing a wacky rigged finesse worm on a 1/8 wacky jig. They started hitting better with the water calling down a bit but looks like the warm weather is on again.

Welcome back Tom! haha Yea we have been trying to do some back and forth on here to keep updated on the fishing situation.  Hopefully we can get some more people in here who fish the PWC, but it's helped me a lot so far.

I was thinking that this week/weekend would be better fishing because at least the weather is going to be steady for a while with no storms or anything.  The past few weekends have been on the back end of all of the mid-week storms.

Looking forward to the long weekend and lots of fishing!  I'm taking the fiance out for the first time on Sunday, so hopefully I can get her into some fish so she will want to go again!

Hopefully you did well today.  I'll be out there pretty much all day tomorrow.  Going for the morning bite with my dad then out with the fiance for the evening bite.

Just got in from fishing this morning.  Did well today.  Nothing of size but caught 6 1#, 1.5# fish.  Everything came on t-rigged worms.  Fished the shore with the container on it.  Headed back out tonight with the fiance.  It's her first time out, so hopefully I can at least get some perch or something on her line.

Keep an eye out for a red Stratos!
