Weld's Largemouth Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I went to Walmart the other day here in Florida to check out what lures they had. I saw a stack of Walmart PROMO Spinnerbaits that were priced a dollar each. The hooks were strong and sharp and the lure runs perfectly straight. I picked up 4 of them thinking, its only 4 bucks for 4 spinnerbaits, what a steal! These are the spinnerbaits that have caught me the most fish then any other Booyah, Strikeking or brand spinnerbait The only downfall is the skirt tends to slide down when you hook into a 5lber These are the fish i have caught in the past 3 days on these spinnerbaits: 1. 22.5 inches, 5lbs 8 oz 2. 22.5 inches 5lbs 4 oz 3. 21.5 inches 5lbs 1 oz 4. 21 inches 4lbs 11 oz 5. 20.25 inches 3lbs 6 oz 6. 18.5 inches 2lbs 10 oz 7. 17 inches 2lbs 7 oz Best spinnerbait ever Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 I picked a few of those up at my local Wal Mart and gave them to my father. After his first weekend of fishing with them, he told me to buy him more skirts! 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Would some super glue fix that skirt problem? I know you shouldn't have to for a drop of glue for $1 bait = fair trade. Quote

Bank4Bass Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I fished the white ones almost exclusively for 5 years or so and people always laughed at me for my $1 spinnerbaits until I out fished them. I throw them in places spinnerbaits aren't supposed to go and when I lose one it's only a $1. 3 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 That's the way to fish them, more like a jig in that they are consumable as opposed to an expensive crankbait you want to retrieve if at all possible. 1 Quote

einscodek Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Walmart also sells those Bomber Spinnerbaits for $1.50 a piece.. an upgrade over the $1 ones Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 Well, most guys don't actually lose too many spinnerbaits. I really don't think that is much of an isuue. But what is an issue is losing the fish of a lifetime. I buy MegaStrike StrikeBack and Siebert Outdoors Cosmic spinnerbaits for their quailty components and attention to detail. Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 yeah, I aint risking losing a fish. I like quality. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 Never hurts to throw a trailer hook on there Quote
Hogsticker Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If it's working for you great. To refer to it as the best spinnerbait ever may be a bit of a stretch Quote
EmersonFish Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 That's the way to fish them, more like a jig in that they are consumable as opposed to an expensive crankbait you want to retrieve if at all possible. I don't lose a LOT of Spinnerbaits, but the way people talk, apparently I lose more than most other people do. Of course, I throw them right into the junk. I'm like DVT; I look at them more like a jig than a crankbait, as far as their expendability, and where to throw them. I guess the point is, I prefer a spinnerbait that won't break the bank, but won't let me down. I know on some spinnerbaits, the blades are less likely to start turning well on the fall. That is unacceptable. Otherwise, I really just need it to be sharp, durable, and the color/weight/blade combo I like. I'm sure at some point I've tried one of those $1.00 spinners, but I don't recall being surprised at their quality or disappointed. I'll have to do a review. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 In my 30+ years of bass fishing I´ve lost 3 spinnerbaits, all above water level and all when fishing from the shore. Quote
quanjig Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I probably break more spinnerbaits than I loose!! Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 Geez, I lost 3 Roland Martin Big Bass Spinnerbaits in one Day, great baits, well made, huge blades! Don't ask how, but it happens, I throw them in summer , deep, I always use a crank or plastic in spring and early summer, but that's great.. Catching great fish on a dollar spinnerbait... Can't beat that with a stick! 1 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 My fishing buddy swears by em the Walmart ones and Gander Mountain ones both $1. Quote

That's because there are no pike, pickerel, or muskies in Mexico....................in fact, I think that's the title to an old Jimmy Buffet song. 4 Quote
Jon G Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I sometimes replace jig or spinnerbait skirt bands with a small ziptie. That seems to make them hold up a little better 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 18, 2014 Super User Posted July 18, 2014 I've been making my own spinnerbaits for a long time, I use quality swivels that cost almost a dollar by themselves, along with high quality blades and wire. I know that the $1 dollar wally world spinnerbaits work and will work well at times but if you are relying on just those then your missing the boat on spinnerbaits unless your fishing ponds alone. Try fishing clear shallow water with one of those when you need to burn the bait in order to get bit, this tactic will catch big fish but that wally world deal will roll on its side and you'll haul water most of the time. How about slow rolling a thumper blade in dingy water, that wally word bait is going to have to retrieved a little too fast which will make it lift up off the bottom because the swivel isn't free enough for crawling type retrieves. Yes, if you only throw a spinnerbiat at times when the fish are active they will serve you well but try using them on a high pressure lake or a gin clear river, chances are you'll feel different in those situations. 2 Quote
BadBassWV Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 IMO. The average guy who fish's on the weekends, the wally worlds are all you need. They catch fish period. The wire is smaller and puts off better vibration. If your into tournaments and fish for a living then a larger arsenal is needed. I have a couple of the Megastrike strike backs, they are nice spinner baits and well built. I have a couple of the Siebert spinnerbaits, I haven't caught any fish on either of these yet. IMO the profile is bigger and the wire is heavier, in the lakes I fish being 70 acres or less the wally worlds are working better. 2 Quote

I like quality. how do you'll figure you are more likely to lose a fish? i have 5 of the walmart $1 spinnerbaits and they out-catch my more expensive spinnerbaits regularly, except for my all white with red head booyah pond magic spinnerbait. never had a problem losing fish with them either. the hooks are plenty sharp and the components are plenty durable. the only gripe i could possibly have about the walmart spinnerbaits is the limited colors and they only come in one size/weight. and maybe limited blade style, but i dont really care about that myself... no knock to megastrike or siebert, but youre overlooking something because its cheap price wise and doesnt have a name brand. its that plain and simple. sometimes there actually are good things at fair value prices. now, i dont agree with the thread topic that its the only spinnerbait youll need, but its certainly worth having in your arsenal. 3 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 18, 2014 Super User Posted July 18, 2014 youre overlooking something because its cheap price wise and doesnt have a name brand. its that plain and simple. I would have to say it isnt that "plain and simple". They are overlooked because they have a tick poor hook, skirt quality is laughable, the skirts dont stay on without modification, the wire its made from is weak and breaks easily and the paint comes off bu looking at it.
