ThatZX14Fella Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I see Pinnacle runs ads on here so I'm sure I'll get a biased opinion, but I was looking through their reel lineup and seen a few I'm considering buying. Are they actually good reels or are they not very well made? I never see anyone talking about them so I was just curious. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 16, 2014 Super User Posted July 16, 2014 The BassResource staff has had the opportunity to fish most of the new Tournament Series rods & reels. We have been VERY impressed! http://www.bassresource.com/content/search?SearchText=pinnacle&BrowsePageLimit=30 This is the reel I would have you focus on, it is my favorite: Optimus XiHS http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/p-139-optimus-xihs.aspx#page=page-1 Quote

Lol How about this one? It's a little closer to what I could pay. http://www.pinnaclefishing.com/shop/p-85-producer-xt.aspx#page=page-1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 I believe they use to produce reels for the lower price bracket. The reviews I have read on their newer models have been very favorable. Unfortunately for them it is an uphill battle trying to compete with the established quality reels from the big four: Shimano, Diawa, Abu and Lews. I think you should buy that reel, use it awhile, and give us a review on it. EDIT: I just took a gander at the specs. It has an all metal frame plus a metal side cover. This lends itself to excellent durability. I've no idea how its magnetic brakes compare to a Daiwa which are rated the best. I have used Gen 1 magnetic Abu reels with no problems. Many like Lews magnetic brake reels. It appears to me to have some very nice features for its price. I wouldn't be worried about buying one. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Although they have their faults you gotta throw Quantum in there too. They sell a lot of reels. Pinnacle has really stepped it up, but like you said it's an uphill battle for anyone new. There's so much good stuff out there. Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I picked up an optimus and it is awesome....braking system takes some getting used to as it is dual braking but you aren't able to adjust each seperately. Turning up the brakes turns up both the centrifugal and magnetic brakes at the same time Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I had/have a pinnacle solene that I got years ago at Walmart. It was great. Ran smooth. Cast far. I used it as a shaky head rig. I broke the casting button on it after a few years into owning it and semi retired it. I may need to bring it back into service soon and have no doubts that if I can find a replacement button- it will perform great. Quote

I noticed the metal frame and side cover, that's one of the reasons I am really considering it. I'm probably going to be buying one as soon as I can get the money. I'm not the best guy to do a review, but I'll try my best. Although they have their faults you gotta throw Quantum in there too. They sell a lot of reels. Pinnacle has really stepped it up, but like you said it's an uphill battle for anyone new. There's so much good stuff out there. I bought my first Quantum last Friday at the hunting and fishing expo and will definitely be buying more of their reels after I try out some different companies. I want to try to get at least one a piece of the top rated companies and then buy more of the brands I like most. I believe that Quantum will be one of my favorites and I'm really looking forward to the hunting and fishing expo next year so I can pick up a Quantum Smoke for $100. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 I have four Pinnacle reels. My favorite is the Optimus hand tuned. It's on par with anything else in it's price bracket, and adds a couple features. I did a full breakdown if the reel in our reviews section. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 If your a Daiwa guy, the Optimus is the reel for you. If you like the tried and tru six pin centrifugal brakes, then go for the Pimmus. Quote
