It will have: 1 Spinnerbait 1 Chatterbait 1 Jerkbait 1 Jig Pack of senkos and TRD’s A few hooks and weights A couple small things like rebel craw, inline spinner and a couple paddletail swimbaits. Pair of pliers Very lightweight - not carrying a whole planko of just 1 type of lure. This has hands down been the best and I can just keep it on my back the whole time because it’s not heavy. Unlike a backpack filled with stuff where you have to constantly put it down. I'm in the downsize camp too but only more so. For bank fishing at the nearby (4 mi) lake, I use a single ultralight rig (whether casting or spinning), and a small ziploc bag (or two) stuffed in my pocket(s) with just a small handful of finesse baits and tackle. Hasn't hurt my fishing productivity at all - in fact, it increased line in the water time since I spend less time fussing with tackle. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted March 11, 2022 Super User Posted March 11, 2022 I learned years ago to travel light when I'm bank fishing. One small 6" x9" box which I modified to hang on my belt loop. I can carry plenty of stuff for a two to three hr trip, and not get bogged down in the process. One rod and this box and I catch as many if not more fish this way. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 I wade fish mostly and found my latest 2 tackle pouches at a goodwill store. The brown pouch is actually a womans purse and i just attached a different strap, together they cost me $1.25 as you pay by weight. I also use waterproof phone cases to keep my lures and hooks in and slightly bigger case to keep hardbaits in. Everything fits into the pouches that i sling over each shoulder. I keep small terminal tackle in the sealable pouches that swivels and such come in. This way when i go to deep when wading the only stuff that gets wet are my pliers and fish grabber which i just oil up when i get home. 1 Quote

ThatZX14Fella Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 It appears that this topic has picked back up, for whatever reason. I've moved from primarily bass to catfishing now, so I don't move as much. I now have a tote with all of my fishing gear in it. Rod holders, cast net, line, bass gear, catfish gear, panfish gear, etc. It's heavy, so I wouldn't carry it far, but all of the areas i fish are less than 100 yards from where I park. I have my bass gear for when I get bored, my cast net for bait, and my panfish gear for when I'm not getting anything in the cast net (I'm terrible with it). I do have a bag if I decide to just bass fish, but I haven't done that since last year. I don't even have a bass rod these days. Just catfish gear. Quote

I do nothing but bank fishing so I think I may be a halfway decent person to take a tip from. When I started going fishing pretty much every day I got tired of walking back to the truck to get a new bait or to get my pliers (even though I keep small channel locks on my pocket), so one day I was thinking about a better way to carry my tackle and decided to put everything in a backpack. What I have in my backpack is four Plano boxes, a spool of line, pliers, clippers, and a tool for just in case I somehow backlash. I have plenty more room to keep building up my tackle and equipment and this is just a small Wrangler backpack. I'm not sure if this helps you guys or not, but I figured it couldn't hurt you and that if there's someone out there who couldn't think of a good way to carry their tackle maybe I helped them. Quote
schplurg Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 I just dumped out my backpack to see. To start, a very tough canvas book bag from Walmart - $11. I need nothing bigger. In a smaller pocket: - bags of plastics, some loose ones and a mixed bag. Main area I keep: - 3600 Plano (sometimes 2) with mixed baits depending on the trip. - terminal tackle, double-sided (I found this had opened in my pack, not good). - water (I may bring a new water filter too now) - old sandwich I found (peanut butter I think, awaiting forensics report) - a few napkins - sunscreen (super old barely any in there) - scale - multitool (this one sucks, too hard to open) - pepper spray maybe (just bought) - first aid kit - small black bag with GoPro stuff. Sometimes I keep a Cliff bar or similar in the pack. And sometimes my telescopic combo goes in the bag. Quote

Super User PhishLI Posted April 23, 2022 Super User Posted April 23, 2022 I see some posters here like the minimalist approach. I just can't do it. I need my stuff. The Magellan Sling pack holds essentials like my phone, hemos, pliers, glasses, scale, line cutter, plus 2 small 9"x5" tackle boxes. A bunch of things. It's great for short hops when I need to go light. Highly recommended. I get a ton of stuff in the Mossy Oak tackle bag. 5 3500 boxes, plus compartments. The Jenko shoulder bag holds a bunch of plastics. I was in a rush today so I didn't wear my backpack full of swimbaits.? Somehow I've gotten conditioned to all of this stuff hanging off me and still manage to wade comfortably 75' out from the shore, but sometimes I leave the Mossy Oak parked there. 1 Quote
Deeare Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 If you go with a backpack buy a real backpack. Not a fishing brand!! I bought a shimano years ago and it didn’t last. Fell apart after a couple seasons. I went out and bought a jansport backpack and it’s lasted almost 10 years with no issues: no rips, zippers work perfect. 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted April 27, 2022 Super User Posted April 27, 2022 I’m just kinda surprised the good ole red Radio Flyer hasn’t been mentioned yet to get all your gear down to the shoreline. As for a day of stream or river fishing and moving light along the bank I still use a creel with some hemostats clipped to the strap… Quote
Sphynx Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I dunno if it applies anywhere else this way, but during the fall feed on the Columbia I can absolutely slay the smallmouth with nothing more than a bag of Zoom super Flukes, typically I split the colors and fill it with the pearl, something like a baby bass color, and a sexy shad color, and a bigger size pill bottle (the orange or brown ones with the real pain in the ass lid) with a half dozen or so hooks, and a few small sinkers/swivels, in my kangaroo pouch on my hoodie goes the scale, pill bottle, Zoom bag and a small roll of 6 or 8lb Maxima Ultragreen, back left pocket carries the pliers and a small Cabelas diamond stone hook file, grab my spinning rod and we're cooking with gas, I regularly put up 50+ fish days in a 2-3 hour session doing this, and it weighs basically nothing, that time of year is great...the rest of the year I typically carry a Cabelas/BPS Advanced Angler backpack, been serving me for years and it just won't quit. 1 Quote

dustanniver Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 I usually wear a 26 pocket fishing vest and I use a Range bag that the NRA gives you for joining, as my tackle bag. I can carry anything that I want to bring in those 2 things. Quote
abzack Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Anyone remember the old Berkley Fishing Partner? The tackle box you wear. Compartmentalize waist belt fishing tackle box. 1 Quote

lynxcat Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I have a few options but my typical setup is a regular backpack. I bring three rods. Typically a moderate MH, spinning, and HF rods do the trick across a bunch of applications. I have two rods I can carry on my back and then I use the other while fishing. This is not a light setup but I guess I get the benefit of being bigger than 99% of the world so it’s not too bad. If I am in a spot I really like, the. The backpack and rods come off for a bit. Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 15, 2022 Super User Posted May 15, 2022 I've been using a real old Qiucksliver backpack made for surfers, big enough that I fit 3 full size boxes, and tons of plastic's and terminal tackle in there plus 2 water bottles. Been hauling that thing around for about 12 years now, with no issues. Quote
