Super User tcbass Posted July 25, 2014 Super User Posted July 25, 2014 so you guys don't think they can see the ewg hooks? when wacky rigging? Caught tons of lmb on EWG hooks wacky rigged. That's what I used my first 5 years. Quote
Swampstud Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Maybe it's your rods spine. I've used many different hooks for wacky rigging recently and all have worked. Ive tried a 6'6 mh. With 15# flouro 6'8 mh fast action with 50# braid 7'0med spinning rod with 8# flouro 6'6Med spinning rod 8# flouro. Ive settled on the 7'0 spinning rod med. Action with the trokars. If fact i cought a few today on the ol'wacky rig Quote
Super User CWB Posted July 26, 2014 Super User Posted July 26, 2014 Trokar 2/0 weedless wacky. A bit pricey but by far the best I have used. Weedguard actually works and doesn't hinder hooksets. Quote
moguy1973 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I use size 1 or 1/0 Owner Mosquito hooks and I use a double wrapped Goody's ouchless ponytail rubber band with the hook through the "X" that the rubber band makes when it's on the senko. Works much better than the o-rings and keeps the hook perpendicular to the worm for better hookups. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I use a medium power extra fast action spinning rod. I don't "set the hook". I just lift up and start reeling. I have lost 2 fish on a wacky rig and both times it was my fault for trying to horse them in. Set the drag low and let that fish run with it. It may take longer to get them in but its worth it. Are trokars really that good? Quote

Swampstud Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I was using gamagatsu(sp) hooks, i did a lil test. Found something that weighed 3-4lbs and put the point of the hook into it and slowly lifted. The gama hooks had quite a bit of flex, so much so that the hook point fell right out when i let off. Trokars flexed very lil, and the hook stuck right in after let off. I never need to resharpen trokars, like do with any other hook. I keep a nice bow in my line an wait for that "tick tick" the a steady lift an reel. Quote
jiggz125 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 2/0 Gammy finesse wide gap in red (not weedless) hooked through the senko. I used regular 2/0 Gammy EWG in red and killed em last weekend and suprisgnly did not get many weeds. I didn't lose a single fish once hoooked up. Quote
