Super User Hi Salenity Posted July 14, 2014 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2014 I believe those are fish lice. Ive caught stripers at Wilson that had those things on them.I think your close, I think they are Fish Lousehttps://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=11&ved=0CEEQFjAK&url=http%3A%2F%2Fedis.ifas.ufl.edu%2Fm%2F%23publication%3Fid%3DFA184&ei=xrvDU5zNNYL08AH5y4DYBw&usg=AFQjCNF0BPKF_rq1iVuncZfBNISrKLe-6g&sig2=3LZ7cvYt656Uhs3uWrZLMw Quote
boostr Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Somebody should teach these guys about protection, or use a little soap and water once in awhile. Quote
conorsixtakc Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'm sure your right but I've never seen anything like them. It also doesn't help someone a few miles away just died from a Brain Eating Ameba (true story) No joke! First thing that came to mind was amoebas, but those look too big...? Hopefully? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted July 14, 2014 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2014 Yep, no big deal I guess? This is the response I got from the KDWP= It is a fish louse. They are fairly common in Kansas. I've seen quite a number of flatheads serving as a host to this critter. On Mon, Jul 14, 2014 at 11:56 AM, Miller, Mike <mike.miller@ksoutdoors.com> wrote: Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 They look like a small Horseshoe crab and can be free swimmers. After I drained the livewells I saw a couple still alive and swimming around!!! I added more bleach to the 2 cups of water that doesn't drain out of the livewells and sprayed Raid on the inside walls! I dint know what they are but if it wasn't in my boat I'd kill them with fire! Raid? Seriously? Sometimes I wonder how people make it through life? Why on earth would someone spray Raid in their livewell? Here's a little hint, the lakes and rivers are full of living organisms. FirstnameLastname Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 BURN IT! Everything, even the boat. In fact BURN the lake. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted July 15, 2014 Super User Posted July 15, 2014 I don't know the name of the critter that was on that flat head. But if most of you will study the bass you catch carefully, most often than not you will see the same critter on that bass. I know on most of the bass I catch I can see them sliding around the slime of the bass. I have yet to contract any foreign flesh eating diseases.. Simply wash off your hands and keep fishing. LOL... Super User F14A-B Posted July 15, 2014 Super User Posted July 15, 2014 I do believe Hi Salenity is a cut up like many here on the forums in reference to the Raid comment by jtharris3, even if he was serious , why not just ignore it rather than post a rather insulting series of remarks 2 Quote
