Justin2 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I broke a Shimano Cumara this evening. The rod is 3-4 years old I don't really remember. Will I be able to send it in and get a new one. Just wondering what their warranty is like. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 13, 2014 Super User Posted July 13, 2014 i believe shimano has an over the counter warranty...meaning you go in to the shop and they give you a new one. one of the reasons my next rod is going to be shimano, well that and i have only heard good things and my small local shop is a dealer and i would rather support them than bass pro to get my normal st croix rods Quote
Justin2 Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 It being a older Cumara and not having a receipt I wonder what they would say. The place I bought it has the new Cumaras in the same length and action as my old one. So idk if the would give me it or not Quote

If they don't (and you don't have any shimano dealers near you), send it in to shimano and they will send you the new Cumara given yours is discontinued. Quote

cbass12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Except for Bass Pro Shop. THIS ^^^^^ Our basspro gave me a hard time a while back when I had the reel seat come loose on a compre. I had my receipt in hand. The CS people kept trying to tell me that they could not return shimano rods because it was past 90 days (rod was 6 months old) and that I had to send it in to the company. I asked them to call one of the guys over from the fishing counter and even he tried to tell me the same thing. Not until they got a manager up there did he explain to them how Shimano's warranty works. Quote

When I went to Bass Pro Shop @ Manteca CA, I talked to several folks up the chain but they just didn't give in. The manager guy actually knew the Shimano's warranty and recommended me to go to small mom-pop shop on the other side of town to get the rod exchanged! Quote

The manager guy actually knew the Shimano's warranty and recommended me to go to small mom-pop shop on the other side of town to get the rod exchanged! I purchased one of the first runs of the Crucial rods. I only had it a few days when it broke a few inches from the tip and had to take it back to BPS. They did not give me a hard about it. They just put with the rest that had been returned and gave me another one. But the next time I came in with the same rod and the same problem, they acted like I was abusing them. I only fished each rod once and the same thing happened. They would not give me a refund with the receipt. It had not even been a week. The people they have at customer service were clueless. They finally got a corporate guy,not the store manager, to approve and exchange. I ended up with a G. Loomis 844C IMX for a couple bucks more. I have been fishing it for 7 years without any issues. jtesch Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I talked to the Shimano rep at the Chicago outdoor show over the winter about the exact same thing (broken gen 1 Cumara) he said send it in with the filled out return form from their website and they will replace, no questions asked, with or without receipt. He even told me to cut rod into 3-4 pieces so it fits into a big Manila envelope to lower postage. I had my new gen2 Cumara in 2 weeks. Have tried BPS a couple of times and they wouldn't exchange broken Shimanos for me until they looked at my rewards card history. Then the manager came over and said " sir with the amount you spend here you can go pick any Shimano you want in the same price range". If my wife knew that, I'd be dead right now Quote
hatrix Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 If I am not mistaken Shimano has the best warranty on rods in the biz. I have yet to need to use it but its always nice to be able to get a new rod no questions asked. Well I guess unless you try at BPS. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 You could also try American Legacy Fishing. They would honor the warranty. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I guess I'm the only one with a good experience at Bass Pro. They exchanged my Crucials without batting an eyelash. Quote
Preytorien Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I went to Dicks Sporting goods and exchanged my Crucial without any issues. They didn't even need my receipt, which I had already lost anyways. But now I've kept the receipt and hope that if anything bad would ever happen again they'd treat me the same way. Quote
