Howdy. Finally getting around to putting together a 2 piece rod. This will likely get used only a few times a year, however if I like it enough I may squeeze it into the regular rotation.

The primary baits I'm wanting to use with this stick are rattle baits & jerkbaits. Secondary baits being flukes and senkos. I'm debating between a 3 power spinjig blank, and a 3 power popping blank. The popping blank is listed as "fast", which seems a bit odd. I have a 4 power RX8 popping blank that is a mod fast. Is the MHX popping blank really more of a mod fast?

I know single/treble hooks are best with different blanks, but if I had to choose I think I want the slower blank of the two for treble hook baits as my primary weapon. Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah, if anyone has any pics to share of a 7 ft spinjig blank or popping blank under load that would be fantastic!!

I use a 7ft 2 piece mag bass medium MHX standard carbon blank for a lot of those presentations. Been a really useful versatile rod for my travelling adventures. If it's too fast for what you want switching to mono will help keep the hooks buttoned. I really like the rod and will be getting a med heavy and heavy version in time for my next travels.

The MHX Popping blanks are fast but with a soft tip. I like them a lot for top water and jerk baits. IMO the fast action lets you make a more controlled presentation moving the bait just how much you move the tip.

Hey DVT. I have a quick question. What happens if I take a 7 ft two piece blank and cut three to four Inches off the butt? I know how it affects a one piece blank, but being a two piece has a connection point would this be a bad idea? Will it still slow it down? Will moving that connection point put more stress on the blank?

Trimming the butt will slow the action and slightly lower the power. A better option imo would be to extend a 6'6" blank using a piece of a broken rod that matches the ID and taper closely. The insert should reach inside by at least 2.5 x the butt diameter. Neither way should have any affect on the ferrule strength
