Most companies only do warranty if you are the original buyer and have sale receipt for full replacement. After certain time period, break it more than once, your own fault, and/or don't have the sales receipt some offer replacement at a respectable price. So if I bought a used rod and it breaks am I just out of luck or would they allow you pay a fee like example if it's your own fault. The three rod company I am looking at is Dobyns, Megabass, and Gloomis. If anyone knows anything please let me know. I look into the companies website but says nothing on second hand purchase.

Thanks.

I don't know about those companies but i know St Croix has their gold star service where it doesn't matter if you are the original owner or not.

I am not familiar with those companies policies either.  I bought 3 Falcon Experts as a package deal from a seller here.  Rods were new, but don't think seller was in fishing retail although he does apparently own a business.  I didn't keep my PMO receipt.  Fell face first into a pile of rocks and broke two 4" pieces off the tip.  Was my favorite rod at the time.  I called Falcon and explained the situation.  Told them how the rod got broken, and obviously not a fault of the rod.  Asked if they covered anything.  I was allowed to send them $80 and the piece of the rod describing its length and action.  They sent me a new Cara equivalent to the Expert's length and power/action (not the T7, but a $200 rod anyway).  I thought that was very nice of them, and one of the reasons why I have more Falcons than any other brand (although Fenwick is close to surpassing their number).

Long story just to say call the rod's manufacturer should you ever break one and explain what happened.  You may be pleasantly surprised.  At the very least you will know you did all you could.

No idea about megabass.

The only knowledge I have of loomis is my 1 NRX that has a wildcard that i've never had to use. If you get the wildcard from the seller, you get the warranty.

Dobyns rods have such amazing customer service. I've yet to use it but it's an 80$ no questions asked warranty original owner or not.

When I contacted G. Loomis they just asked for $100 bucks and sent me a new rod.  I never sent one in but I thought it used to be $50.  Maybe I missed something.

Megabass will only warranty to the original purchaser for up to three years. You must show proof of purchase. I can't hel you with Dobyns. Loomis might cover you especially if you ever registered a rod with them.

Thanks everyone. I thinking of getting like 3-4 rods and looking into used rod to save some money. It would be a huge risk if they won't even offer "no questions ask" warranty that you pay some money for even if you are not the original owner. I have read through megabass and dobyns warranty and they don't not have anything for second hand owners. All it states is if you have receipt. Maybe I should just pass on used rods?

I've never heard of an instance where you needed proof of purchase to utilize the Dobyns warranty. Just using a simple google search, I found countless threads asking the same question and not once did anybody ever have an issue getting a replacement rod being the non original owner. Make sure you get good pictures of the cork when buying used. I've seen a few lately /w chunks missing and the seller not saying anything about it.

You can't go wrong with st. CROIX I've accidentally broke so many of those rods over the years and they NEVER gave me a stink about any of them. You send the rod back to them with a $20 money order and about a week later a brand new rod shows up at your doorstep. Now that's what I call customer service.

Bass1980, you should go to American Legacy Fishing . Com and read their G Loomis Warranty. It doesn't get any better than them if you want to replace a broken G Loomis.

Make it simple, buy St. Croix and know your being covered by a company that is well established, and been leading in customer service and warranty "to whoever owns the rod when it breaks" for longer than the rest, I have never been sorry switching to St. Croix, as a matter of fact after 20 or 30 I have decided I have no reason to buy any other, but prefer buying new.
