Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 Do you guyss use a white trailer on a white spinner bait? I'm asking because I just realized I don't have any white lures except trickworms but I wanted to try some white spinnerbaits tomorrow. Does this color combination look decent? Im thinking it wont matter because im fishing darker water and i just want the trailer to give it a little bit bulkier profile Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 Nope, I don't use trailers. If you feel adding a trailer will make a difference I'm the first to say you should use it. Also, trailer color being equal to skirt color is not a must. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 The only trailer I put on a spinnerbait is a trailer hook. 1 Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I fish a white split tail spinnerbait trailer on them most of the time. I have found it to really help in the highly pressured areas. Quote
cueball Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Black or white. Try both contrasting and matching. Quote
Bank4Bass Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I primarily fish spinnerbaits and almost never use a trailer. Unless you count a trailer hook, than I use one 100% of the time. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 Almost never use a trailer. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 More often than not my spinnerbaits have a few longer skirt strands that act as a trailer. I don't normally use a plastic trailer of any kind. 1 Quote

Dyerbassman Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I also don't normally use a trailer, but by all means, give it a shot. The bass will let you know if it looks good! Maybe the fish haven't had something like that and they'll be all over it. Good luck Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 I don't fish a white spinner bait very often. I fish a white & chartreuse one quite a bit. I like using a plastic trailer. I'll use a Zoom or BPS trailer most of the time. Most of the time I will take my chartreuse felt tip marker and color the tips of the legs. I don't know it it makes any difference other than I like the way it looks better. The lake I fish most often doesn't have any shad in it, but many of the bait fish/minnows that are present have a little bit of chartreuse on their tails. Many of the mature sunfish (I'm not sure what breed they are) also have a little bit of chartreuse on their trails. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 I use nothing but a mister twister 4" split double tail grub as a trailer with a trailer hook. Color? Match the skirt color. For smaller spinner baits like 1/8oz I trim the body to fit the spinner bait hook. Note, if your fishing from shore I find the spinnerbaits work better if there smaller and using a side cast. These small ponds have spooky fish that are tuned into there quiet environment. Quote
einscodek Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 white head spinnerbaits go better with lighter color trailers black head spinners go better with darker color trailers too much contrast I find puts the fish off.. or rather I'm not too successful with odd contrasts but theres always one knuckleball fish willing to take one suited like a clown Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Don't use a trailer either but will occasionally use a trailer hook. Quote
FrogFreak Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Sometimes I use another spinner as a trailer on my first spinner. Quote
doyle8218 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I only use a trailer when I want more bulk. Quote
MassBass Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I like a white grub trailer on a white spinnerbait. The trailer adds more bulk and the big fish will crush it. Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I'm questioning why you would choose a white spinnerbait to use in dark water. If that's the only one you own, I'd change out the skirt for use in stained water. At the very least, add a trailer that would make the bait more visible. Quote
