SpencerLittle Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Big spoon. Strike King sexy spoon. Bigger the better IMO. Quote
BiteFiend Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Dropshot fished vertically. If after a few minutes they still don't bite, I'll move on and try to find active fish. I usually only fish for suspended fish if I can see baitfish in that area on my graph. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 I will count down a 1/32 texas rigged zoom fluke to the proposed depth and then work it back to the boat. Have caught a bunch of quality bass walking it back at mid depth range in some deep holes. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 If bass are suspended without any baitfish nearby they are inactive ( resting) and very difficult to catch. If baitfish are there, then the bass are catchable on baitfish style lures, spoons, tail spinners, crankbaits, A -rigs, Sroungers, swim jigs, underspins, dart jig/ worm, swimbait, etc. Tom Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Making a presentation to suspended fish can be difficult. My answer to that difficult task is to use a slip bobber to present your offering to them. Jigs are my prefered offering, but small spoons, wacky rigged worms, even live bait are all options as are some I didn't mention. I don't spend too much time on suspended fish, but I will use the depth they're holding at in my search for more catchable fish. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 As mentioned by many, try to find the fish that are suspending in relation to baitfish, these fish are generally more active. I have had the best luck with Kastmaster spoons, thrown on a controlled slack line and jigged through the school. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 13, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 13, 2014 Like others said, has to be baitfish around or you're probably wasting your time. A swimbait on a jighead would be my bait of choice but a flutter spoon for shallower fish or a jigging spoon for deeper fish are also good options. Quote
sparky241 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I have found that suspended bass are hard to catch any tips or tricks? they are suspended from the school for not following the rules. Lol sorry I couldn't resist. A spinnerbait would be what I would try or a drop shot Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 14, 2014 Super User Posted July 14, 2014 WRB covered it. There are two types of suspending fish in my experience fishing for bass & walleye. Those fish that are on the hunt for forage and readily available to catch and very neutral fish that have already fed & really hard to catch. Often times those suspending fish do not show up on the conventional graph because they move off to the side as you move over them depending on water depth. As you go deeper they appear on the graph. I catch a lot of smallies behind the boat path that never show on the graph because they move away from the boat then back behind the boat after the boat goes past. 2 Quote
