crankbank Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Hi Guys, Just curious if anyone on here has an experience with the T3 (search didn't provide much info). I am in the market for a new reel and was pretty dead set on a Tatula type R, seeing as they can be had for under $150. Am I better off spending $200 on a T3 or $150 on a Type R? I may have missed something but does anyone know why there is such a big sale on Daiwa rod and reels on TWH? Upcoming iCast? Appreciate any responses, First time, long time Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I've haven't any experience with either of the Tatula reels. However, I've only read one bad comment so far on this model. I picked up a used T3 1016 and the T3 MX1016HSL. Both work well. Took the standard T3 to Florida last month. It wasn't long before I was trying to engage the spool with my thumb on the other reels. It is fast and easy to use. I got a new one from TW. Sending it back today because the cast control has no affect on spool tension. There was a comment in a recent thread from smalljaw that the T3 is being discontinued because of quality control issues. Apparent about 3 times more of them are being returned for repair work compared to the Steez. However, his professional repairman friend says they are good reels. I assume your thoughts about the upcoming iCast is correct. I've got a couple of the Zillion rods and like them. Some don't like the seat, but I do. Some like the K2 seat, but I don't. To each his own. Personally I think the T3 1016 is well worth the price even tho I have to return the first (new) one back for replacement. I like them well enough that another one is being deliver to my home today. Another used one so I know it won't need any repair work. Quote

It is going to be a tough decision, seems hard to pass up such a good deal on the T3... Quote
MediumHeavy Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I have no experience with the T3 but I'm sure it's fine, unless you get one like the previous poster mentioned. They're fairly popular reels. I have 2 Tatula's and they are great. Some complain about the size and weight, but it's not a problem for me. They can be found for $105 around the internet and with upgraded bearings and a type R or JDM spool, they are a casting machine. Either way, you can't go wrong with the Daiwa reels you are interested in. Good luck! Quote
crankbank Posted July 10, 2014 Author Posted July 10, 2014 Thanks MH, maybe I will just have to buy both and find out for myself.... Quote

Hogsticker Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The 1016 is a killer reel. I don't care what anyone says. It's just plain fun to fish. Quote
