Super User tcbass Posted July 9, 2014 Super User Posted July 9, 2014 So, I made my (knock on wood) final fishing purchases this year. I really outdid myself. I got 2 new Cabelas Tournament ZX baitcasting rods with 2 Abu Garcia Revo Rockets, 2 Cabelas Tournament ZX spinning rods with a Shimano Stradic FJ and Ci4. I don't plan on buying any more rods or reels unless I break one of these and need a replacement. I'm set. I probably spent about $250 more on line and lures this year. I am done, done for fishing stuff. That's what I told my gf....and then my ignoramus brother piped in, "Until archery season!"Ugh, he's right. Deer rifle and archery, turkey, and other is just around the corner. And then there's ice fishing. I spent a lot of money on archery gear last year, a new bow for and my gf, battery operated electronic jacket from Milwaukee (I have a condition where I can't stay warm). So, if I added it all up, I don't know what is more expensive, all I know is they the Bait Monkey and Gear Gorilla are equally taxing!I'd classify the Bait Monkey as fishing gear and the Gear Gorilla as hunting equipment. So, is the Gear Gorilla lurking in your house too? Quote
TNBassin' Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Gear Gorilla got me for 3 Curado Is and another Crucial. F that gorilla. 1 Quote
Super User tcbass Posted July 10, 2014 Author Super User Posted July 10, 2014 It's the same dude. My bow alone, retail, almost cost the same as all of my rods and reels I bought this year. lol Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I've probably spent about the same on rod reel and line and terminal tackle as lures/baits... Quote
primetime Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I just stay away from stores this time of year, I get nervous whenever I drive past a large outdoor retailer and I just keep picturing a large tub full of topwater lures that I have never seen like all the Japanese stuff as I love buying a walking bait from a Japanese company other than Lucky Craft(I have a few Sammy's, Gunfish, props) but I love the looks of the stuff from IMA, Evergreen, Megabass, Duo, Depps, Daiwa, Owner, you get the picture.... I am a sucker for any bogo sale, and right now stay away from the big boys, tubs full of all the Rapala Cranks you want, Xcalibur, Norman and Storm.....I actually stopped by one the other day just to get some Milk, and while taking the long route to the dairy section, I found a box of Tungsten weights, and alot of them, so I had to grab a handful, and some braid that I don't need at all......I started looking at reels and rods which were a great deal, but you can only fish with so many.........I may have to go back to grab that 5'6" for kayak and pond fishing though Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I fear the Japanese Domestic Monkey.Still the same dude ! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 10, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 10, 2014 I've been hauling the boat gorilla around for awhile now! Don't let that guy get to you! You start looking at used boats that are affordable, then it's boats that are a little nicer but a little more than you want to spend, then you're on boat dealers websites using their "build your boat" menus. Why not side imaging? and power poles! and chrome wheels! and dual consoles! That way it's a little more protected from the elements when my wife kicks me out for spending that much on a boat! 2 Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 Definition of boat.- hole in the water you toss your money in. 1 Quote

Super User Raul Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 Fishin´n´huntin´ are not as expensive hobbies as you may think, you don´t need a lot nor the uber stuff to practice them; wait until you get the show dog bug, campaigning a show dog is a real abyss deep hole in your pocket ( show entry fees, traveling, handler, grooming & general care and maintenance expenses sum hundreds of dollars a week ) and if you have a really good dog then you are the proud owner of a group/bis winner champion that in it´s lifetime is not going to produce the money you spent in it specially when breeding dogs is not your business ( like in my case ). Super User bigbill Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 Both...I purchase new gear and equipment at the end of each year. I purchase new baits all summer. Quote
ColdSVT Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 And that race car happened to be a Cobra? I still have the cobra lol I used to race supercomp...i miss that thing sometimes! Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 To me it's all the same ... gear vs tackle, baits, lures etc. If I had to separate them then I would say the "Bait Monkey" is worse than the "Gear Gorilla" for me. Buying bait is like "Death by 1000 cuts". One bag here, two bags there, a rainy day order from TW, BassPro etc and you end up with a hoarders room filled with tackle. LOL 1 Quote
FrogFreak Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Every Monday I find and order more stuff. I can't stop. Quote
BakerJosh Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I fear the bait monkey. For whatever reason it seems far more affordable to buy ten $15 baits than it is to buy a $150 rod or reel. 1 Quote

crazyjoeclemens Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Bait monkey for sure. Every time I'm in a store that sells bait, I gotta walk that isle and see whats on sale. That bait monkey keeps leeching money out of my wallet $10 to $20 at a time. As much bait as I already have, you'd think I would start setting some cash aside to upgrade a rod or reel, but the bait monkey won't let me. Quote
boostr Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 DSG just sent me 20 bucks to spend online or at the store ... I just lost my baby bass Scatter Rap... Maybe get a bluegill Scatter Rap also Quote
