OntarioFishingGuy Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 What a GIANT. Too bad we dont have spots up here in Canada. Quote
Paul s Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I bet it was an awesome fight on spinning gear, nice fish!!!! Quote
TrippyJai Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 What a crappy picture. They spent the time to photoshop it, but couldn't give us a better angle of the fish. Anyways, nice fish! Quote
ColdSVT Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Wow!...ive caught spots up to three lbs and they are vicious little muthas! Quote
starcraft1 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I was kinda surprized it came out of New Melones. My guess would have been Bullards or Collins lakes. Nice spot thou. We've caught them to 9 lbs. on Bullards and the general store on Collins has 3 or 4 on the wall in the 9+ range. California is lousy with spots, they planted just about all the res. with them along with either cokes, rainbows, silvers, or kings in the 6" to 8" size range. Perfect food for big bass. Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I wish they would give more detail on what gear he used lol Quote

I am not that surprised. New Melones has been kicking out big spots for a few years now. There are several other lakes that are capable of breaking the record. Like Shasta and Berryessa. Berryessa is the home lake for the club that I am affiliated with. We do projects with the BOR and fish and game. I know they have shocked the world record several times. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I read about this previously. It's kind of cool that it happened to Keith Bryan, president of Powell rods. If you want to see a sow belly of a California spotted bass, look up "Fish Chris" in the members section and look at his avatar. I think he has caught a few spots over 8 lbs, and maybe more. Quote
FrogTosser88 Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Thats like 40 minutes from my house... I'd rather fish the delta tho. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I wish they would give more detail on what gear he used lol Me too. I am DYING to know when he shaved last and what he was listening to on the radio while he caught it haha Quote
