Lunker_Buster Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I decided to hit a new little sweet spot pond this afternoon. I started fishing around 430pm. My first cast was a carnival quarter toss. I must have put it right in front of his face because I set the hook as soon as I clicked the reel over. Ratl trap. Landed another right after. Senko. Then it was like a busted high school party. The bite completely vanished. I stayed until sundown hoping to complete the hat trick. I tried a variety of approaches, colors, retreives. Nothing. I didn't notice any significant weather changes. There were shifting gusts of wind all evening. 5 o'clock hit and it was shutout central. Any ideas? Just food for discussion. happy with the two 3-4 pounders tho! Quote
Will Wetline Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 "Bassionably late" is as bad a pun as I've heard in I don't know how long. (Puns are one of my character flaws as well.) Re extending a bite . . . y'know they move in and then they move out. You'll get 'em again, maybe next trip. Welcome to BR! Quote
Lunker_Buster Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 I thought my word-play was somewhat clever haha My guess was solunar patterns had something to do with the bite. Blame it on the moon. Thanks Will Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted July 9, 2014 Super User Posted July 9, 2014 If I had to guess, I'd say it'd have to do with the changing weather conditions. A wind that doesn't blow from one consistent direction is usually a good indication of a changing weather pattern and can mess with fishing quite a bit. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 10, 2014 Super User Posted July 10, 2014 I'll say weather. Was a front approaching? Quote
Lunker_Buster Posted July 10, 2014 Author Posted July 10, 2014 A front had just blown out of the area (I honestly wasn't expecting much success). The wind was somewhat sporadic. Im sure weather had some influence along with evening approaching. I guess I was just surprised. If I had the Jon boat out there I would have chased deeper fish. I'm new to the pond/lake and still have a lot to check out. Thanks for the input fellas! If I recognize a related pattern i'll be sure to add the details. Who doesn't like taking on the challenges of a new fishing hole? Variables and and going with your gut feeling are part of what makes fishing so addicting, rewarding, and interesting to talk about. Take it easy! Quote

Super User geo g Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 I have had a similar thing happen on fishing trips. First cast I have pulled in a quality bass followed by two or three more. I'm feeling pretty good and say to my partner, " we are in for a super day". Then for two hours nothing. Not even a bite for either of us. I learned my lesson, I now keep my mouth shut! Quote
