Doc-Drew Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I'd be up for this. How is camping down there? I have been wanting to go there ever since I moved to KC but have never gotten aroud to it. Chris you mentioned you are taking a bass boat down there. Do most of the pits not have a good ramp? Another thing, since there are a billion pits down there, would we be limited to a certain area or would all be fair game? Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 ok so most of the ramps are gravle and concrete but some have drop offs at the end! are they great some are and the 10 i recommend are in my opinion are the best but i would allow you to fish any of them and ill have maps for every boat of all the pits and ill have them marked which 10 i like and they are all labeled weather they have a ramp or not and as far as caming i know of a couple with camping but i almost think its free game if you tent camp ill check into that too but the cabins are a decent deal. im not doing this in sub for what blue has this is just another fun get together and who ever can make it great and if not ill fish im just going down that weekend and fishing and the more the marrier Quote

jrsmith_80 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I was down there over the weekend and the cabins are very nice. The Mine 19 cabin is were I stayed, it has a kitchen, one bathroom and one bedroom. It will sleep 6 guys fairly comfortably but sharing one bathroom sucks. Kitchens have a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The fishing was was excellent on most ponds, on one of the ponds that I fished with three other guys, we all caught fish and not one fish was under 15 inches. Big boats may have a problem getting on the water as all the boat ramps are an "enter at your own risk" type of deal. Be very careful to pay attention to the end of the ramps, once they end it's a nice drop to the bottom. Tent camping is free!! Quote
sizzlefry Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 i know there is camping at big brutus for sure not far away but ill still do some checking on the cabins and tent camping is there power for batteries Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 15, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 15, 2014 is there power for batteries is there power for batteries At the cabins there is. Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Thanks jrsmith for all the info any prices to go off of for one cabin and any info on how to reserve them? That would be much appreciated. Quote
jrsmith_80 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I believe they are 70 bucks a night and you have to rent Friday night and Saturday night together to get the weekend, during the week you can rent for just one night. You can go to the KDWP website and click on reservations to reserve them. The one we stayed at was named "Mine 19," I cat for the life of me remember the name of the other cabin but they are about 100 yards apart. Both cabins also have a grill, picnic table and fire pit. There is also plenty of power to charge the boat batteries. Quote
jrsmith_80 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 One thing I might add is there is NOT a maid service. You are required to take bedding, towels and the all important TOILET PAPER!! Some one goes to check the place out after you leave for stolen or broken items but the renter is requires to clean up after themselves before they check out. I also know that you need to allow plenty of time to make reservations, I was told the weekends fill up pretty quick. I sure wish I could go with you guys but my wife and I have reservations to go down there in the middle of September so going again in October is not an option. If you guys have any questions please don't hesitate to ask as it's all still fresh in my head. Quote
KC Jedi Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I am certainly interested in this. Would like to sign team 'Cut Bait' up for the tourney! Should we just make reservations on our own? Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 ill check this week and see if its open and see what i have to do to reserve it Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 23, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 23, 2014 a little later then i wanted but thats what we can do so if thats and issue sorry im calling them tomorrow to see whats up with the camping You can camp anywhere by any of the pits for free from my understanding. Just no electricity to charge your batteries with. Quote
halfpint33 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 There is 2 camp grounds in Columbus which is a few minutes from most pits. Also if ya plan on fishing the trout pit which is where the cabins are at ya have to have a trout stamp as well as regular fishing liscence. I may be in on this with my brother in law.We both live in Columbus so we dont have to travel. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 26, 2014 Super User Posted August 26, 2014 My dad's house is up for people crashing there. Lives in the country ( but it's a chip and seal road) in farlington. Plenty of power sources and room for boat parking and charging. Bring your sleeping bags and we can all save some $$$ Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 looks like that is the plan guys Quote
jrsmith_80 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I just got home from the strip pits today. Man was the fishing tough! I'm sure the cold front didn't help at all. I didn't catch a lot of fish but the ones I did catch were decent. I only fished the trout pond as I was with my wife and she really didn't care to fish a lot so we just stayed near the cabin. Hope you all have fun fishing there. According to the local the state record bass lives in the trout pond, I sure the heck didn't see him! They stock the trout pond with trout the first weekend in October so the bass fishing ought to be good with the big ones chasing those little trout. Quote
