When should I be looking at the sonar vs. looking at the down imaging?

and to go along with this question, which tutorial DVD would you guys suggest to learn these things? Ive got a Humminbird.

Both all the time unless you are vertical fishing, then 2D sonar.

Look up Doug Vahrenberg and Jason Halfen on youtube

I have a humming bird as well. It's almost mind boggling.
