smalljaws99 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 A question for some of the more experienced hands who pour their own soft plastic worms ans grubs. If I buy small bottles of the worm dyes can I paint them on my lures to creat custom colors. I am not so much interested in making my own soft plastics as customising those I buy. So, can I simply use the dye with a paint brush???? Quote
smalljaws99 Posted May 7, 2006 Author Posted May 7, 2006 Oh, yes, I meant to add one other thing in my post above. I've tried the Spike it dye stuff but I don't like the awful garlic smell that I think masks a heavy "industrial" odor. I'd much rather use something with more color options like the dyes and colors worm and grub makers use. Thanks Quote
SENKOSAM Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Dye comes in unscented also. Other than Spike-It (best service), I use Colorite (average service) which is cheaper, but comes in more colors. Spike-It has better Chunk Paint for dots and stripes that won't bleed into the plastic. Colorite's paint is average, though I do like the pearl, silver and gold solid coats. Quote
Mattlures Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 for temperary coloration you can use a sharpie permenant marker. The colors will bleed in a couple days but for on the spot uses they work good. plus you have a bunch of colors to choose from Quote
smalljaws99 Posted May 7, 2006 Author Posted May 7, 2006 Thanks - Senkosam where do you order the Colorite? Direct from the company? I did an internet search and can't find hardly anone that sells it. Thanks Quote
SENKOSAM Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 http://www.colorite-glowmaster.com/index.html Cheaper than Spike-It, but service sucks. I've used their products for 5 years and they've lasted to the present. Supposedly you can dilute colorites product with acetone (which is what their clear solution is, so don't waste your money). They have a great color selection. I use pipe cleaners to dab on color and make laminates, which saves color rather than dipping the whole lure. Re-use the pipe cleaners of the same color. Quote
