Is there a gene that when you turn 60 plus you generally just don't care anymore  . I had an old man blow it up in my showroom bathroom , then walk out and tell me I have a clogged toilet . To my dismay he had actually found mt everest and left it there  and insisted that I move said mountain . Who in their right mind does that then invites a tourist group to inspect ? Not to mention last week  I witnessed an older lady on the little grocery cart run slap through a bean display at a local grocery store then drive over the evidence and continue shopping as if the beans had somehow ran out and got in her way . Now mind you I had died laughing and so did like 8 other people but I mean when does the switch kick in  ?

Look on the bright side! The old geezer could have left a trail clear across your showroom floor. At least he got it all in one place. Sometimes that's a major accomplishment.

We old guys often wonder at what age the switch will flip that will allow some of you young guys to remove your heads from your backside. :eyebrows: It is an age old dilemma!

Being ignorant or unaware, has little to do with age. You can find them in every age group. Like the guys who think it's OK to throw a case of empty beer cans on my front lawn.

Now I am a nice young country boy , who has respect for everyone and I dont hate anyone . I have manners and patience , now my wife would disagree . However I mean after the situation he went and sat down in my front lobby and continued to watch tv with not a care in the world just like  hiroshima had just been leveled . Needless to say his brake service was interestingly expensive . Just kidding but good lord I probably laughed about this most of the day . Raider you have competition for  king of the oval office .

It wasn't until I got to your second post that I realized your "showroom" was part of an automobile dealership, or repair service.  When I finished reading your first post, I thought you sold plumbing fixtures, and that the toilet the fellow used was part of a display.  Hence my comment about Jackass the Movie.

As an older person (72 years), this is the first time that I have gotten the impression that someone who runs a business seems to expect a customer to unclog a toilet, regardless of who or what is to blame.  If you provide a rest room for your customers, then you should keep it clean and well stocked with TP.  Since it's your toilet, it is also your responsibility to maintain it, and to clear it should a customer's deposit exceed the toilet's capacity.

Overcharging a customer to make up for having to clear the toilet is not a good business practice.  Bragging about it makes it all the worse.

I never expected the customer do squat . He is a customer not a custodian . My bathrooms are cleaned twice daily as they should be expected and over stocked for customers convenience . I was surprised as how the situation arised . I clearly stated just kidding regarding in reference to the repair bill , I am not in the business over over charging customers for anything . I live and work in a neighborhood comunity where garages and buisness's live and die by reputation. So my reputation as a fair establishment is solid , nor did I brag about anything. So I don't know where your implementation was in reference to my character ?

That you would use the line, "Needless to say his brake service was interestingly expensive ." and then dismiss it as "just kidding" makes me wonder why you said it in the first place, or why you would consider even suggesting such a thing.  I will admit that I stopped reading after interestingly expensive.  It turned me off to anything else you had to say.

I've been around a while, and in my journey through life, I have come across folks who would adjust their billing to compensate for aggravating customers.  Not many, but some.

Glad to hear you did not overcharge the fellow.

This post was funny as hell, until some old person had to take it serious. Someone flip the switch the parties over.

This is some funny stuff. You have to give the guy credit. He could have walked out like nothing happened and let the next person explain away how it wasn't them.

Just wondering, did a " young person " ever do anything wrong in your place of business? I noticed that in your OP you questioned the ability of "OLD PEOPLE" to display proper decorum. My suggestion would be, A: don't take any business from anyone over, say 60? B: don't get old, you may not be able to find anyone to work on your car, and C: don't ever eat anything that may cause stomach distress if your not going to be close to your own potty the next day, you may cause another businessman to question the decorum of "young people"

For the short period that I did residential side work. I would charge aggravating customers more. It goes with the trade. Change orders are expensive. It takes time to change things around. Along those lines I would charge pleasent and nice customers less. The elderly generally got a pass as for over charging or getting hit with change orders. I would go out of my way to be kind and courteous to them. Even if it meant changing something 50 different times. They have lived a full life and deserve respect, or at least to be treated in a respectful manner. Even if they are being a cranky old cogger.

When I worked at the service company. Doing commercial electrical service work. I routinely charged rude and extremely difficult customers more. I'm there to do work for your company, not be your d**n errand boy. It was usually some of the corporate clients that were difficult. 8 times out of 10, it was because there was no communication between corporate, the maintenance company, and the store manager. We dealt primarily with the maintenance company and the store manager. If you were rude I would drag my feet and completely not pick what ever I was called to fix. Along those same lines. I routinely had the highest customer satisfaction as well as top amount of material sold and money made for the company.

Youth is wasted on the young.

I suspect the older gentleman never gave it much thought or had any idea he had done something "wrong".

I find it  kind of funny the OP picks "Old People" as the target for an incident with a rest room, maybe it was the punk that used it before him and didn't mention the mess??  :Idontknow:  Most public rest rooms I've been in have been intentionally dis serviced sanitary wise and mechanically be those well under 40!! I am sure if one would do a survey very few would find the elderly causing any sanitary issues or destruction, and the ones that do would not be intentional, quite the contrary to those under 40!! Kinda humorous,,,,, :rolleyes2:

If I'm in an establishment and have to ask to use the bathroom, I usually accompany it with a "do you have a plunger in there?".
