Hey guys,

First off, is it Villain or Villian. It's Villian on purefishing, but that's not a word...

Anyway, im in the market for a 7' medium with a fast action, for lighter jigs and spinnerbaits. Right now I'm comparing it to a Okuma C3-40x($140) and Abu Villain($80). Im also looking at the Lews Tournament SL($80), as I have a MH and love it.

here are links if they help:

http://www.***.com/Lews_Tournament_SL_HM60_Micro_Guide_Casting_Rods/descpage-LSLC.html

Thanks!

Is there a question there somewhere....other than the correct spelling?  :teeth:

I can tell you this much.  I have 2 Villain rods, one spinning, one casting.  The 7'6" MHF casting rod is rated for 3/8 to 1-1/4 oz.  I won't throw less than 1/2 oz. and prefer heavier than that.

on the rods themselves, it is correctly spelled as 'villain'. i'm not sure how i feel about them. i have the 6'9" ML/MF which i like but i had the 7'1" MH/F which i did not.

no direct experience with either the okumas and the lew's tournament SLs. i played with the C3s at the store and didn't notice anything special about them. i have owned three of the team lew's speed sticks and was quite pleasantly surprised by the component quality, workmanship, weight and handling...whether that carries over to the tournament SLs, i dunno.

have you considered the kistler pro series (*** exclusive)?

I had a villain but sold it a while back. Not a bad rod. 80 seems like a good deal for it. If you are willing to spend around 140ish I'd look else where for a rod. Lots of good options in that 100-150 range.

I have not looked at the kistler rods. Although, I just found a Croix Rage for $99 bucks, a bit more money, but it seems like just what I need

The villain markets for like 150 doesn't it? So I'm looking at the $150 dollar rod you are telling me I should look for already lol.

I'm very confused as to why you have ($80) next to Abu villain then...

And no, I'd look at other rods, but you can spend your money however you like

I have a discount with abu garcia, so i get a hefty chunk off.

Hence why I said that 80 sounds like a good deal to me for the villain. But if you are willing to spend 150ish, I would look for another rod. If you're looking to spend 80, then go for the villain. My point is I would spend more money on another rod even with the discount on the villain, but that's just my 2 cents.

And that's why I posted here! Thanks.

I also found a Croix rage in M-F for only $99, so it's a bit more money for im hoping a lot more rod. Any experience with this rod?

Other than holding it in store, no. If you like the handles and guides I would say to go for it. I've had Avids in the past and really like the SCIII blank. If you can stick your reel on it I would try and do that. I know there are others on this forum that do have experience with the rod so if that's where you're looking starting another thread might be a good idea to get better feedback.
