ghost Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I've used the new Curado for a couple weekends now. First weekend, the casting was inconsistent and after reading a previous post I wrote and got a reply, I lubed inside the tension knob. That did the trick, I can cast so much farther with the Curado I than the other baitcast reels I own. I'm slowly understanding how to use this reel as compared to other reels I own. The tension dial on the bottom of the reel works, it does help keep the over runs to a minimum. Also for my casting, 1 brake set on works best. using 2 brakes lessens the casting distance but no over runs for the most part. It's like setting 4 brakes on an older Shimano baitcast reel. I guess if I was doing more pitching and flipping, 2 brakes on the Curado 200 I would work great. The reel palms great, just a tad taller than the Curado 51E. I like the higher gear ratio on this reel also. Working crankbaits, especially Rapala Scatter Raps, I can make the lure run perfectly. And if I'm using a worm or jig, I can bring back the lure quick to make another cast. So before I was on the fence with this reel. Now I'm certain it's a great reel and Shimano did a great job on the aesthetics, tolerances and craftsmanship of the new 2014 Curado. There is a hint of slight green tint to the reel when seen in direct sunlight. Now I'm happy I own the Shimano Curado 201 I HG! Quote

Some would have scratched their heads and say something was wrong with the reel after a few casts. They have an expectation that the reel or any reel for that will be perfect as soon you spool it and cast it for the first time. Continue enjoying your reel... Quote

Super User Tywithay Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 Good to hear you're enjoying it. It definitely is a sweet little reel. A lot of folks are used to the old Shimano system and this one has to be set up a little bit differently to be effective. Once you get it dialed in, it's one of the better performing reels out there.
