Jraut98 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 What is your guys opinion on the best braid fishing line in 15-20 pound test. Also I want a braid that is smooth to reduce wind knots Quote
Paul s Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I love fireline in 15 pound, and grand slam as well, in 15 or 20 or even higher. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Nanofil is about as smooth as you can get and works good on spinning reels. Otherwise I would suggest sufix 832 Quote
LunkerFisher Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 i just spooled up some 20# suffix 832 and my first impression is that it is a lot smoother than power pro. Haven't field tested it yet. I also haven't tried a lot of braided lines so I don't have much to compare it to. Quote

Super User RoLo Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 In reality, you'll find that most brands of braid are quite similar, it boils down to personal preference.I've used Power-Pro Braid for several seasons but eventually switched to Berkley Trilene Braid (I won't go into detail) Trilene Braid consists of 8 braided strands similar to Sufix 832. However, Trilene braid is not offered in 15-lb test, so I have one outfit rigged with 15-lb Sufix 832. Roger Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 The stiffer the braid the fewer the wind knots you will get. If you can find a braid with a coating it would reduce your wind knots compared to a super smooth braid without the coating. Suffix performance braid might help with the wind knots. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 7, 2014 Super User Posted July 7, 2014 Fins wind tamer? Not a bad line at all. I get quite a few wind knots when I fish fresh water, hardly ever when I fish salt. I can't prove it but I think this is the difference. I have seen videos where the line hits the first guide causing a wind knot. Fishing salt water I generally throw a heavier lure, I think it keeps the line straighter coming off the spool. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 7, 2014 Are you putting it on a spinning reel or casting reel? For me Power Pro Super Slick has been great on a spinning reel. Quote

I agree with Dwight, 'stiffness' rather than 'smoothness' is what reduces wind-knots (if that's your concern). For this reason, the heavier the 'line-test' the stiffer the line, the fewer the wind-knots. I use '30-lb' braid when I'm serious, so wind-knots and line-burrowing aren't an issue, even with limp Trilene braid, another 8-member braid. Roger Quote
