long island basser Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 My outings usually last between 4 and 8 hours Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 5, 2014 Super User Posted July 5, 2014 When I lived on a lake fished only a few hours at a time. Living in SoCal most lakes open 1/2 hour after sunrise and close a 1/2 hour before sun set, you miss the early dawn and late dusk bite. The drive to these lakes is about 1hour, add 30 minutes to hook up and put away the boat, you have 3 hours before fishing to each outing. Fishing from open to lake closed is about 13 hours + 3 = 16 hours away from home and did that for about 100 days a year for 40 years. Today my on the lake time is about 6 hours, 9 hour day about 60 days a year. Longest time fishing on the water is 3 weeks an annual marlin/tuna trip to Mag bay Baja on a private sport fisher, fish unless traveling or sleeping 24/7, did this for about 30 years, very tiring trips. Super User DogBone_384 Posted July 5, 2014 Super User Posted July 5, 2014 I work two jobs, so I fish when I can. I generally get out for two to three hours at a whack without a hitch (unless I get called back to work, which happens). I'd have to say that I could go sun up to sundown as long as I brought sandwiches and drinks, but I've not had a day with nothing to do that I can remember, so I'll chalk it up on the "TO DO" list. Gary0155 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I broke my wrist a few years back so casting for hours at a time can take its toll . I purchased a lighter reel last year so now I'm good for about five hours. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted July 5, 2014 Super User Posted July 5, 2014 When I have the time, I'll be out all day, especially on vacation. Generally, I don't have that much time due to work and keeping up with my responsibilities, so I take what I can get which is anywhere from 4 - 8 hours usually. It is probably split evenly between 4 - 6 and 6 - 8 hours. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 5, 2014 Super User Posted July 5, 2014 If there is no family stuff going on I will stay out for 10 to 12 hours. 6 to 7 if there is something I need to get done. Quote
plumworm Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 When I was 28 it was dark to dark. At 68 it's how long my body hold up. Usually 4-5 hours and I'm toast. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Title got my attention............ Lol I usually go 3-4 days a week. Ranging from 1-8 hours. 31 years old. Married. One daughter. We all fish. ;-) Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 Like everyone else, it depends on the day and who's with me. All of the lakes I fish are at least a 30 minute drive. Most are about an hour. I generally fish at least 6 hours, and often from first light until late in the afternoon. I will take a lunch break to relax in the shade come midday. I don't have a garage so loading and unloading the boat requires a bit of work. I only go once or twice a week, so I want to get my moneys worth. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 6, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 We fished from 7:30 PM to 10:30 AM Thursday/Friday last week. I fished for almost 30 hours straight for bass, muskie, and pike in Minnesota once. Normal trips are 6-12 hours. Quote
HeavyFisher Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Long enough to get er' done and put a smile on my face at the end of the day. Quote
porkleaker Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 crack of dawn until around 10-11, come back for a break and some lunch and then head back out around 4 or 5 until sundown. That's on a good day though. Quote
gallowaypt Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 It's usually how long my wife lasts before she's calling telling me to come home. With a 4 month though, I can't complain if I'm out for 30 minutes. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 I usually am out for 2-4 hours before the wife drags me home. Sometimes I wish my cell phone would vanish. I do make a point of trying to get out for a weekend of all non stop fishing once a year but the last two years I have not been able. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 I will fish for 30 minutes if I have 30 minutes, and I will fish for 12 hours if I have 12 hours. I have spent up to 16 hours in one day fishing without a break besides stopping to eat or use the bathroom when I'm at the beach, the way I see it, if I only have 1 week at the beach I better take advantage of it! Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 Usually right around 8 hrs for me. I'll go longer if I'm on new water or the fish are really hitting. When it's ugly hot/humid (i HATE the humidity) I'm often done after 6 hrs. Quote
Paul s Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just depends on if I have work or not but ive gone out at 3:30am and stay out till 10 or 11pm. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 All day long All right...giggity Quote
crazyjoeclemens Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I try to get on the water early, like sunup or just after. If the weather is decent and the bite is good, I'll be out there till 10 or 11 before I pack it in. Then I'll head back out late in the afternoon and fish till dark. My local lake is only 20 minutes away, so it makes it pretty easy for me to be selective about when I go. Quote

All the lakes that I fish take 30 minutes or more to reach. Also, I store my boat about 20 miles from my home because my garage doesn't have enough room for it and the housing association won't allow me to keep it in the driveway for too many days. It takes a bit of work to get ready for a trip. I do have a 10 foot jon boat leaning against the inside of my garage that I throw in the back of the pickup for smaller lakes, but when I take the big boat there is work involved. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 7, 2014 Super User Posted July 7, 2014 I am a few hours at a time kind of guy. My work and family commitments don't give me much choice. I will say that even when I have "all day" to fun fish I tend to neglect food/drink and it drains me in a few hours as a result. Better preparation and I could be on the water forever. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted July 7, 2014 Super User Posted July 7, 2014 Really, this is a pretty personal question! I'm good, but can't last 2-4 days like some of these guys! Far from it. lol Quote
Chris9999 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 When I bank fish alone, it seems that I last about two hours exactly. On a boat with a buddy I could go all day Quote
