Rough Tatula

I bought a Tatula over the winter and havent had any problems with it. It has recently become really rough and it makes a loud noise whenever i crank the handle, as if the gear are not meshing properly. I have removed the spool a couple times, and maybe there is a special way to put the spool back in? The problem get worse as i tighten the spool tension knob. I really have no idea what to do, and before this issue, i really liked the reel. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Does it happen on the cast as well or just when reeling? If its on the cast as well then its bearings, if not its probably gears. Pull up the parts schematic online and carefully take it apart until you get to the gear case. You should be able to tell if there was something not matching properly, there will be metal shards everywhere. Clean all the grease out with a Q-tip and then regrease it with some quantum hot sauce grease. If the gears are worn then you'll need to send it in to daiwa and get it fixed or replaced.

Then its in your gearing assembly most likely. Be very careful taking it apart! If you don't think you can do it then just send it in to daiwa. Its probably still under warranty.

Make sure that the pinion is seated properly. It's very easy for it to fall sideways when you're putting the sideplate back on.

Can you elaborate a little bit. (Sorry i`m a beginner at disassembling reels).

I've never opened a reel, but I have done maintenance and upgrades on similar products and that definitely sounds like a gear problem. Could be something as simple as a gear is out of place or something like the teeth have been broken and/ or worn down. I have a Tatula as well and absolutely love it. Excellent reel for the price and will be purchasing another one.

There's a white collar that is fits around the pinion gear. It's held up by two little springs. It's a very wobbly little sucker and it's tough to get it all aligned properly. My guess is you have the pinion seated a little too high or the springs may have gotten a little sideways. There's not really any way to get the main gear out of alignment because it only fits one way.

I fixed it! (It was the bearing retainer in the sideplate catching the side of the spool. I took it out and put it back in and it worked!). Thanks for your help guys!
