buzzbait4me Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 A decent thunderstorm just rolled in about an hour ago. We planned on fishing in the weekly lunker tourney at the lae tonight. My question is, is it even worth it to go fishing. Will the fish be active or completely shut down from the storm? Thanks Quote

Super User Raul Posted July 3, 2014 Super User Posted July 3, 2014 Are you shure the thunderstorm is over ? cuz there goes fishing buzzbait4me, raises his rod and ......buzzbait4me ends up like KFC, crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. Quote
buzzbait4me Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 The storm is over. I make sure not to be even close to any water with my rod at any sign of a storm. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 3, 2014 Super User Posted July 3, 2014 The fishing will be slower after the storm than before 9 times outta 10 from my experience but its far from un-fishable, youll still have a good chance of hooking up Quote
einscodek Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 The only post frontal I avoid is massive cold fronts during fall transition to winter Dont worry about summer fronts and you should feel lucky to be fishin anytime you have the chance I myself feel you can catch fish under any condition some more challengin than others sure You just need to adapt The fish may not be as aggressive after thunderstorm fronts but they cant hold out for long cause they are hungry.. adjust Quote
Super User geo g Posted July 3, 2014 Super User Posted July 3, 2014 I have had good luck right after a storm as long as it didn't dump too much water. After loads of water it sometimes takes a day or two for the water PH to adjust. The fish just seem to get funky! Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Not much will keep me from fishing. Lightning is one thing that will, but the minute it passes I'm back out there. In my more reckless days of my youth I would fish through a storm and do pretty well (not recommended.) Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted July 4, 2014 Super User Posted July 4, 2014 In my more reckless days of my youth I would fish through a storm and do pretty well (not recommended.) Yikes...Just Tuesday I was fishing a small lake and a storm was approaching, so we headed for shore. Bolts of lightening started coming down. But on our way in we passed an aluminum canoe, and the guy was paddling out further into the lake! We couldn't believe it. By this time the sky was black. We loaded up and got away from the water fast, and that guy kept paddling towards the middle. I hope that guy made it off the water ok. Quote
Paul s Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 The storm is still rolling through bud, I would suggest going tommorow as they will be absolutely KILLING it!!!!! Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted July 4, 2014 Super User Posted July 4, 2014 When we fish the perfect times we don't learn $@!#. Fish in all conditions and have confidence to go and enjoy the outdoors anytime. As far as tourneys someone always whacks em for the most part....it's fun to be that person! Get out...enjoy...be safe and enjoy what our good Lord has created. 3 Quote
JimW5283 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I tend to have decent luck the day AFTER a steady storm. I am heading to Lake Towhee/Nockamixon today. Hopefully it pans out well. Quote
einscodek Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 When I look at the forecast and see a front comin in, I know I'm gonna catch somethin big.. esp during and post frontal 1 Quote
scwildman Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 During the summer here in SC, when the weather and water are both very hot, I have had great luck after an afternoon thunderstorm. The rain cools the water and the fish seem to turn on. Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted July 6, 2014 Super User Posted July 6, 2014 FWIW...We had 3 straight days of thunderstorms on Tues, Wednesday and Thurs. On Friday the bite was on fire. Had a great day after 3 days of storms. Quote
Under the Radar Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 A decent thunderstorm just rolled in about an hour ago. We planned on fishing in the weekly lunker tourney at the lae tonight. My question is, is it even worth it to go fishing. Will the fish be active or completely shut down from the storm? Thanks I interpret this to mean an afternoon thunderstorm, not a frontal system. Question #1: Depends on your motive... Any time on the water is good for me as long as it's safe. Question #2: Here in Central FLa, it's customary to have afternoon thunderstorms roll thru due to the sea breeze collisions. If it's possible i fish on a daily basis. After the storm, look for any moving water, such as drainage pipes or inflows of water such as creeks etc. Hope you had a good outing, and work on that confidence game. Quote
