bassman1976 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 just bought 2 chatterbaits never fished them looking for advice Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Great baits although I have had more luck with the Gambler Swim Blade. I just saw some Strike JKing Pure Poisons today and they look good too. You can fish these any way you want. Steady retrieve, erratic, yo-yo, shallow, deep and I've even had some success pitching them into heavy timber. They catch fish. Quote
Fedxpress Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Just throw them out and reel them back in for starters. Just like she did. Good Luck Fedxpress Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Wow that rod is awesome! Im gonna gonna sell my St.Croix for one of those. Anyone know where i can get that rod? : :) :) 8-) -WM haha seriously that rod is PIMPIN!! Quote
Fedxpress Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 She said it has "BLING" Wally World has them. That is an 1/8 once white and pink chatter style lure, to match her crocks. Fedxpress Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Enjoy it. My seven year old gave up the Barbie pole this year and wanted a grown up size rod. At least she made me buy her a pink one. Quote
FatBoy Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Here's a thread from last summer that has some great tips on chatterbaits: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1149565473 Quote
GatorBK Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I saw them on tv a couple weeks ago . I am not much on buying new stuff but I thought what the heck. First cast I caught a fish. I continued fishing it and missed several bass. So I only had some 4/0 owner worm hooks with me so I added one as a trailer. It works great now. I just cast out and reel it in with a steady retrieve letting it get just over grass beds . I tried letting it sink to the bottom and tried jigging it but my strikes have came on a steady fairly fast retrieve. I have caught 40 to 50 bass in the last 2 weeks on one . My only dislike are the dull hooks that come on them but adding the owner trailer hook made a world of difference now if a bass just sniffs it hes hooked. I like the chartruse and white with the gold blade. Quote
slarose20 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I might be the only one who hates and despises the chatter bait... if you ever get sick of it you can do what i did. I cut the front chatter metal piece off and used it like a jig. Let me tell you what. It works awsome as a jig ... Call me old fashion but im just not a fan of the chatterbait :/ ... Anyway i have to agree that rod is pure clutch. I hope someday when i have children they will love to fish as much as i do ... SteveL Quote
Guest avid Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I have had mixed results with the chatterbait. It seems like any other bait, sometimes it's the right choice, sometimes it ain't. Curious. What color works best for you. trailer? standard or something else. good luck and have fun. avid Quote
Fish Man Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 hey avid, for me it would have to be a cortez shad (gold) booyah boogee baits.they come with a trailer by yum called a boogee tail that works really well.been my best bait so far this year Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 14, 2007 Super User Posted April 14, 2007 Avid, I use the Zoom split tail trailer in white for every place except timber. In timber I use a Bass Buster 4" double curly tail grub in white to keep the bait more upright when bumping into the timber to lessen hangups. As far as durability, I still have the first one I bought in 2004 and only had to replace the trailer. I don't like the trailer that comes with the new ones. I throw them a lot with good success and my only complaint is the finish comes off the newer ones with colored blades from very little use. I use 50# braid with them so I don't baby them at all. IneedAnewScreenName-i098509 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 A 4 inch ring worm has the best action. JMO Quote
