Hey everyone. I am thinking about getting a Abu Garcia vendetta 7' MH fast paired with an Abu pro max baitcaster. Would this combo be a good setup for ALL fishing lures and techniques, or do you think I would also need a spinning rod to accompany the baitcaster to be able to fish all lures. Thanks

I would recommend a spinning set up for finesse tactics

A 7' MH won't be able to cover every single presentation, but it can cover a lot. X2 on the spinning rod, for weightless lures and finesse baits. Instead of the pro max, get a Lew's Speed Spool at TW with free shipping for $89. Plus the 20 dollar mail in rebate that ends this 31st, its a great deal. I have this reel and its awesome at its price point.

A mh vendetta is a very stiff rod. You'd be hard pressed to fish anything under 1/2oz, because it won't load up enough to cast well. A medium power would be more versatile, in my opinion. You'd still probably be better off with a spinning rod for light techniques though.

I am just going to echo everyone else. 7ft, MH, Fast action rod is about the most versatile rod you can own, but it is not going to be able to do everything. You would have one heck of a time casting smaller lures and weightless plastics any further than 10 yards. A spinning setup would compliment it nicely.

Tywithay has a really good point too. For some reason the Mh rods made by abu feel a lot stiffer than ones made by other manufacturers. Their MH feels like anyone else's H-- but that is just my thought and i am sure that others would probably disagree. Great rods though, i really like my abu garcia veritas. Of course, if you live further south than I do, the heavier rod would suit you just fine because you probably catch bigger bass than what I find around here.

I have a 7'3" Heavy, not sure if it's fast or extra fast, but I can cast light lures way farther than any spinning rod and reel setup I've used. I've never seen the point in spinning reels. If it's anything to you I have a Black Max paired with my Vendetta. Caught a lot of bass off of it with many different baits.

This in my opinion is the best combo for the buck, and its the only place I can find it anymore  PROMAX . I have one, and use it quite regularly for night time shakey head.  30# power pro super slick in Aqua green.

Don't get a Pro Max. It has a graphite frame. Plenty of bargain reels out there with aluminum frames.

I have a 6'6" MH/XF Vendetta. It might be stiffer than others but i like it. Its pretty sensitive. It paired with a Lews speed spool 6:1 with yozuri 15lb. Can toss a 1/4 oz t-rig no problem. I agree about getting a spinning outfit for weightless/finesse

i personally wouldnt buy a pro max. Ive had one and they feel cheap and the thumb bar starts to stick after awhile. For $20 more you can get a Tatula for $100 on Amazon.

What exactly do you consider light baits? Im not doubting you but i agree that the abu rods are stiffer than most other manufacturers and i can cast a weightless bait or anything under 1/4 ounce twice as far with a spinning rod as any of the MH or H rods i own and have baitcast reels that cost me a pretty penny on almost all of them. I might have to try a black max if they are that good with lighter stuff

I throw worms, not sure what size the weights are. It took me a while to get used to it and get the setup down pat but now that I've gotten it I an cast them way farther than my spinning reel with the same weight.

I'll agree with this. For spinning reels I don't care, but a casting reel will last longer with a rigid frame. I have current generation Daiwa Exceler's mounted on my Vendetta's. They can be had all day for $70ish NIB on the bay with free shipping. I am not endorsing these reels by any means, as they are only half way through my first season of use with them, (I like them so far FWIW) just giving you an example of aluminum framed reels available for the same kind of money the Pro Max costs.
