I am going to buy the shimano chronarch ci4+ reel. I plan on fishing inshore south texas for specks, reds, bull reds, maybe even shark. What do you think might be an appropriate rod/reel combo?

I don't think the CI4 holds enough line for some of those techniques/fish.  I would get a Calcutta 200 or 300D with the rod of your choice.

Mine is on an LTB but i use it for bass. If you can afford it, i have heard some good things about the Legend inshore. If not, maybe an Avid or Mojo Inshore. You can tell i love St. Croix rods.

I have my CI4+ high speed on a 7'2MHXF Cumara A and it is the perfect pair for bass, even looks good together. For inshore you may want something heavier like the *** Green

I have my Ci4+ HG on a 7'2 MHXF Crucial worm and jig rod (pretty cheap now a days, I think they are getting rid of their stock for the new crucials).  And I love it, very sensitive and shimano's lifetime warranty.
