Super User Raul Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 Buzzbaits, I can count the fish I've caught with the fingers of my hand and stil will end up with extra fingers to count. They just don't work for me. 1 Quote
JTP Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 1- Worms over 10'' 2- Crankbaits that dive deeper than 18' 3- Buzzbait ( Never thrown it) 4- Alabama rig Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 30, 2014 I would be willing to bet most folks that don't catch on bladed jigs and buzzbaits are fishing them too fast. Those are 2 of my biggest confidence baits, but I fish them as slowly as I can get away with to get my bites. For me it's a Rapala Rattling Rap. I do great with other lipless baits when that bite is hot, but even white bass don't want to eat that thing. A flutter spoon would be another. I understand why it works and have confidence enough in it to fish it pretty often, but other than hundreds of white bass and wipers, it's completely struck out in the bass department. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 This is gonna freak everyone out, but..... A SENKO!! This did freak me out! That stupid stick worm is my failsafe, we even tease each other when fishing to see who is the first one that gives up and goes with the Senko!!!! To me that thing is like live bait, it doesn't matter if you wacky rig it, T-Rig it, or even on a shaky head, it just works and fish hit it when they won't hit anything else. For me it would have to be the full size brush hog, as others already said, the baby does a great job but the fish in my neck of the woods don't like the big hogs. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Carolina Rig, i dont get it. Many use it in my bass club but, nothing for this guy! Quote
Nice_Bass Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Rage tail. No confidence if I put them on so never use them and always go back to powerbait lines. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 This is gonna freak everyone out, but..... A SENKO!! It doesn't freak me out. I am in the same boat. Never caught anything on a senko. Hootie Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 There was a time when the buzz bait first became hot, I think back in the late 70's, or early 80's, I swear I believe I could have thrown these things in Wal-Mart's parking lot and caught bass. Was my go to bait for a long time. Hootie Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 deep cranks. I have a real issue fishing them anyway but never bit on one down more than maybe 12'. Seems to me that there are more efficient ways to catch deep fish anyway. Quote
jtharris3 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 One lure that I've never caught a bass on is a Pop-R. I've fished them on and off for many years. Nothing! I've caught fish on Tiny Torpedos, Zara Spooks, Baby Zara Spooks, Hulu Poppers, etc, etc. But the Pop-R......Nothing! Weird! Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I love chatterbaits. If you aren't catching fish on it, try matching the colors to your main forage more. Then, slow roll them through creek channels, over points, under docks or burn them in heavy cover or above grass. I can't seem to catch fish on floating jerkbaits. I have done OK with suspending jerkbaits though. Also, brush hogs.. Too bulky for me. Quote
paangler13 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 senko for me too. Caught some fish on them, but not many. Quote
Lip 'em! Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Hollow body swimbaits down deep and chatterbaits as well. I have caught a few fish with each but no where near enough to have confidence in either technique. Quote
kfelton0002 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I have never caught bass on many things.. including chatterbaits, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, jig n pig, and any other rig besides a Texas rig.. because I either have never or rarely ever use these techniques. In the ponds I fish the water is too full of slop for any kind of bladed jig or spinnerbait. Buzzbait fishing for me was a big goose egg. And the one pond I tried out a chatterbait I slow rolled it just fast enough to get the blade going, along the bank, around cover, and nothing. I have no confidence fishing with jigs so nothing. I have purchased some crankbaits to try in some of the less slop filled ponds I fish but have never fished one so there's another one. The only baits I can safely say that have always produced for me are soft plastics and hollow body frogs. I love a baby brush hog, and I love a smaller 3-4" stick bait.. also love the bigger Yum Craw Papi. Texas rigged with or without a weight (split shot, drop shot, bullet) they always catch fish. And hollow body frogs rarely dissapoint. I am still new to this bass fishing biz so I still have a lot of experimenting and learning to do. Quote
bassguytom Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I've never caught a bass on a topwater frog. I always give it the college try but nothing. I will keep at it. Quote
FrogTosser88 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 This is gonna freak everyone out, but..... A SENKO!! Well, here's an update.. Still yet to land a fish on a senko officially.. Fished the delta yesterday. I hooked into one bass that I got all the way to shore and he got off the hook as I was trying to grab his lips.. flopped around in the grass and back in the water lol... Although None of the other anglers there caught anything.. We moved to the striper spot.. alot of large rocks on the bank.. I tossed in a black with red flake 5".. A large bass from what I could tell ,came out from a rock... grabbed my senko and went back under the rock.. I set the hook but I was maybe snagged on the rock..... So I managed to get back only my hook and the "O" ring.... omg The hunt continues. Quote

That´s the spirit, I can´t catch bass on buzzbaits, haven´t been able to do it for DECADES and I´m still trying cuz you wanna know why ? NOW IT´S PERSONAL ! stupid bait and stupid fish ain´t gonna beat me. Quote
frogflogger Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 As my mentor told me years ago "If it has a hook it can catch a fish if you want it to and try hard enough." Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted July 3, 2014 Super User Posted July 3, 2014 Spinnerbaits. With everything Ive heard and read about them, I am embarrassed to admit that I don't think I've even had a strike while using a spinnerbait, other than pickerel. I've tried, just maybe not for long enough. I just don't understand how people have success on them. Quote
