Josh Smith Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Hi Folks, I've taken up a new way of choosing lures. I have no idea if it's common. I live in a smallish town that has one Walmart. I go in, see what lures they carry, what's selling best, then leave. I go home and order lures they don't have. The way I figure it is most folks here get their fishing stuff at Walmart, and if it's selling well, the fish have probably been exposed to it too much and need something different. Is there anything to this mode of thought? Josh 2 Quote
Kevin22 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 That is freaking smart. Never would have thought of that. Quote
Super User geo g Posted June 29, 2014 Super User Posted June 29, 2014 That is a good idea watching the selves, but I would still buy some of the hot items. What's hot is catching fish. The word is out! Try some and then try your secret baits. You can't lose under those conditions. Once I went to BPS and found Zoom Centipedes were always low in stock. The little plastic bait was hot in south Florida and was a catching wonder. This was before senkos came on the market, and took the heat off this little bait. Your doing the right thing watching the selves for the hot items. Buy some and them turn to the internet. Good luck! 1 Quote
Mr. BattleArmor Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I've done similar and experienced mixed results, but it's worth a try Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted June 29, 2014 Super User Posted June 29, 2014 It's a game we played growing up, follow the leader 1 Quote
BuffaloBass716 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 The fishing section in my local Walmart is a joke. It consists of a few outrageously colored soft plastics scattered on the floor with cheaply made terminal tackle and overpriced hard baits. Sometimes you get lucky and find a box of sale items that you have to dig up from the bottom to find the good stuff. haha Quote
jignfule Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Great Idea, That why fish don't hit senkos anymore, cause so many people use them. brilliant Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I agree with Geo as far as buying a few of the lures that are hot in your area, but overall its a smart plan you have! Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted June 29, 2014 Super User Posted June 29, 2014 In the end you're going to buy everything you can(like the majority here. ) so while you might be onto something remember the bait monkey is always going to win. 1 Quote
gobig Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Most revolutionary baits don't sell out of a wallmart and for the most part I could care less what other people are doing. That's not saying I don't try out new things. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted June 29, 2014 Super User Posted June 29, 2014 I do something like that..I buy everything they have in stock, then order what they dont have. 1 Quote
NorthFloBassin Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I think it's funny at Walmart how if you manage to dig trough all the crap every once in a blue moon you strike gold but most of the time that doesn't happen and you find your self at tackle warehouse, bps or the locals store Quote
