bassnbornboy Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Why does my frog spin when I retreive it? It's the one with the life-like legs. Quote
gobig Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I have no idea. Never had a frog spin. What frog is it? The one with the real legs does not help. Quote
Kevin Beachy Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 is it a lunker hunt. if so it might be imbalanced or youre fishing it to fast. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 28, 2014 Super User Posted June 28, 2014 Are you using a snap swivel to connect it or tying it direct? Quote
akunk23 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I've had it happen to me before. The legs on the frog would wrap itself around the hook and cause it to turn in the same direction. Quote
ThurmanMerman Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I've had this happen to me. I would fish a gamakatsu hook 3/0 with a zoom horny toad on braided line, but I would be fine. When switched to a vmc hook, it seemed to be heavier and draw the toad down and start spinning. I might have had a bad knot to begin with. What equipment are you using? Line? Hook? Bait? Quote
1099gl Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 You might try a swivel other than that I have no idea Quote

However, many of the hollow body frogs come with a disc counter weight towards the bottom backside. It may have fallen out. That causes the frog to flip on its back side. Good luck!! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 29, 2014 Super User Posted June 29, 2014 If it's a hollow bodied frog (Spro, LiveTarget, Booyah Pad Crusher, etc...) then you are fishing it wrong. They shouldn't be fished fast enough to give them a chance to "spin." If it's a toad (Zoom Horny Toad, Ribbit, etc..) then I would suggest using a really light keel weighted hook. I use a 4/0 hook that has a 1/8th oz keel weight that not only adds casting distance but also keeps it right-side up. 1 Quote
bassnbornboy Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Here's the frog that I fish with 14lb. mono backing and 15 lb. flouro leader. medium heavy baitcasting rod (7') and reel It's called a Panther Martin superior weedless frog. Hope that helps! Thanks everybody! Quote

Hope that helps! Thanks everybody! That hook design looks like your culprit. That looks like an old school design. They were not designed to be reeled in for swimming action. They are meant to be popped or twitched. Quote
