I have been looking into making bass jig skirts. Wanting to use a pre made jig head and then tie the skirt.

From the price comparisons I have done, it appears to be the same cost outcome,Compared to the normal Booyah jigs

I buy. Is it possible to actually save when tying Jig skirts? $1.00/jig would be worth the effort.

Is this possible?

It all depends. If you make 20 jigs it is not worth it. If you make a 100 then yes as you will save by buying in bulk.  2-1/2 skirt tabs will cost you about 70 cents for each jig depending on what tabs you get. A painted jig will cost you approx. $1.00 depends on what jig you buy. So at about $1.70 each not including your labor, it is still a good price. Also remember, you are going to make them the way you want and if you hand tie the skirts, they will be better than any store bought jig. JMO.

You have a good start with an idea.  You can keep the cost down buying precast heads and attaching the skirts.  Cadman might even sell you some jig heads or you can look at Janns, Barlows, Lure Parts on Line, Lure Craft, etc.

If you go through a lot of jigs, then yes tying your own is worth it. I had to do a lot of searching (I don't pour my own jig heads) for painted bulk brush jigs and football jigs with a quality hook and I buy some really nice ones  for under 1$ a piece. I buy my skirting material from fishingskirts.com. I usually use 3 tabs per jig so it costs me after i buy bulk skirting material around 1.5 for a really nice quality jig that i make exactly how i want. sure as heck beats 4$ retail. If you don't go through a lot of jigs and just want some nice ones, get mike a call at SiebertsOutdoors.com. Very, very good jigs and inexpensive as well.

I lose a lot of jigs so it is worth it to me which is why I buy in bulk or pour my own. Find a jighead style that works for you and order a 100 in the size and color you use most often.
