BuffaloBass716 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I knew that the summer patterns were coming quick after being in heaven with catching nice prespawn smallies in the river and largemouth in the creeks. The last two weeks have slowed to a crawl, mostly with the smallmouth. With water temps in the high 60's climbing fast, I believe the smallies have moved out deeper, too deep for me to reach them from the bank in the Niagara river. Only a few of my spots produce bass lately, today I was able to grind 5 smallies on a drop shot with extremely long casts with really subtle bites. I tried to talk to some boaters at the ramp about what the bass are doing but with nothing really to go on. Largemouth are really no where to be found either. Hopefully with the return of the grass in the river, they will follow but as of right now it's a tough time in between periods (At least I think so lol) Do you guys think my thoughts about where the bass are are true? Any other tips? Quote
Kevin22 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I'd say they are on a different forage and are schooled up wherever that is. Water temp has been upper 70's for over a month here and I've been catching fish up shallow. Power fishing shallow early and late, and cloudy days. Finessing (sight fishing) when its sunny and they are up sunning themselves mid-day. Fish are hitting good as long as you get the correct bait in front of them. Quote
BuffaloBass716 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 buy a kayak I want one! I'm still working on a car first... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 28, 2014 Super User Posted June 28, 2014 Last week they were coming up and hitting fast moving plastics. I got two on plastic worms while reeling them back in, and a third on a fast moving super fluke. The bass wouldn't touch crankbaits though. Quote
BuffaloBass716 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Hopefully during the summer I will be able to figure out a certain bait they will hit better now that I have a bit more experience on bass behavior. I know the all bass wont be doing the same thing during the seasonal periods so finding the ones that are within my reach and picking the right way to catch them will be the key! haha Quote
Shanes7614 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I could only dream of high 60-70 degree water. Fished to day and temp was 89.8 degrees. Caught them in the shallows with wake baits and topwater and also caught some deeper on weighted swim baits and chatter baits as well. 1 Quote
