Pro Qualifer Vs. Johnny Morris ?

I love, love my Pro Qualifers they are smooth, tough and the casting distance is great but, I was looking on BPS and saw the Johnny Morris Signature series reels for $169. Do you guys think it's worth spending the extra money on the Johnny Morris or would you go with the sure thing Pro Qualifer?

As many on the board know, I have long been a fan of the PQ for the quality, available models/gear ratios, features, and value that it offers in it's price range.  Go much above that $100 price point, however, and there are just so many other options.  I have never even considered buying that JM reel...and this is coming from someone who currently owns 17 BPS BC reels...

Johnny morris reel suppose to be their flagship reel as their best reel.

Yup the PQ is the standard bearer for budget reels IMO. The $150> price point is super competitive for the brand name reel makers. So many good reels I don't see any advantage in straying too far.

Well for $179 you can get a Curado I, so I wouldn't even look at either one of those. I've yet to fish the 3 I own, but apparently according to these forums they are the second coming, and Tackle Tour just gushed over them.

For the THREE reasons I stated above. This forum is head over heels for them, they are in the OP's price range, and Tackle Tour just gave that reel a great review. Perhaps I'll type my posts in crayon for you next time. Just because I've yet to have the time out on the water with mine, doesn't mean there aren't quite a few long time and knowledgeable members on here that haven't. They've all given their stamp of approval on the Curado I.

Got three of them, (Curado i) been using them for three months now, and in my opinion,"They are AWESOME!". If I were to quit jumping ship, I think I have found a great parking place. I may be wrong, but I don't recall ever having been this enthused over a reel.

I'm with you Hootie.  I have 5 PQ's and they are solid reels.  But IMO I say if you're willing to spend $159, then throw another $20 with it and get the Curado I.  It will be light years ahead of the Johnny Morris.  Just my 2 cents.

Spend $159.99 and get the PQ reel on the JM Carbonlite combo. Best of both. I love mine.

PQs are beat reels when they go on sale. For $149 get a Tatula.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm really not much on shimano reels. Don't kill me I just don't like the braking system at all and I think they are to much hype for just a reel. I've always been a dawia and BPS guys I just think the reels are solid. I want this new reel to throw football jigs, carolina rigs, swim baits anything heavy on a 7''3 Heavy Duckett

I know its almost blasphemous to say it here, but I think they outperform any shimano reel I've owned. (That includes 6 curados, 2 citicas, and 2 chronarch 50mgs)

I have both the JM and the PQ.  I like the PQ better.  I haven't been inside it as yet, but, I don't like the insides of the JM.  I also have several Cuarados.  I like the simplicity of the insides of the Curados better than the JM.  Bottom line is that I would not spend my money on another JM when the PQ is less cost and seems to perform as good if not better than the other reels in my stock.

I'm not a Shimano fan either. Spinning or casting they all left me wanting something more at each respective price point. If you guys. Like them, great! Just not for me

I have three PQ's and one JM.  For me, they all cast the same distance.  I find the JM a smoother, but really it's all up to preference.  What might you buy with the extra cash in your pocket when choosing a PQ? An upgraded from what you were planning, a few bags of Senkos, a spool of high quality braid or fluoro?

Use what you like( I like Shimano) doesn't matter to me if I guy uses BPS reels, I am fine with it (aaarrggg) kidding... You know I have one spinning rod it's a carrot stix 7' spinning rod.. PG d**n fine rod... I can't even use it on the lake! Catcalls,,, hate... It's pretty sad really the way folks railroad others on gear! Good luck man, enjoy ur reels!

Yeah great advice I'm interested in the Boca Bearings for the PQ but don't know if it's worth it?
