jdl2425 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I am looking for a 7' medium bait casting rod for crankbaits and topwaters. I don't want to break the bank on one so I am trying to find one for around $60. I've been looking at the Shimano Sellus and Abu Garcia Vengeance. I have a Vengeance for my spinning set up but I don't know how well one would hold up for a casting set up. I am a weekend angler so the rod will not be used heavily week in and week out. Please comment if you have any info or experience on the Vengeance and Sellus or if you have any other rod suggestions. Thanks Quote
Tyler j Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Powell diesel is a pretty good rod in that range but, for $40 more you can get a Duckett Ghost which is a absolute MONEY rod. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted June 27, 2014 Super User Posted June 27, 2014 Academy has a store brand called H20. I have 3 of them, they are light, nice hardware, IM-8, and run right at $59.99. Gander Mountain has their store brands as well for the same price and are nice as well. Think it's their guide series and are IM-8 also. And my H2O's are a nicer rod then the Vendetta rod I have that was closer to $80. Quote
JaxBasser Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 The Tec-Spec rods at Dicks are around that price and are solid. Add $20 more to your budget and you can get a Veritas though. Quote
MichaelJ7 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Abu garcia Veritas are super cheap right now. I have three and love them. $100 rod for $60 I think right now Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 27, 2014 Super User Posted June 27, 2014 The Tec-Spec rods at Dicks are around that price and are solid. Add $20 more to your budget and you can get a Veritas though. This would be the black Tec Spec. The Tec Spec Elite is blue and runs another $20 more. Haven't fished the Elite, but own an original. It is another very good rod for the money. Quote
robster80 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 powell diesel. can b found for 50. or if u want cork handles those r available now on powells website for 69 Quote
einscodek Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 For $50 you can get a Daiwa aird casting rod (or Daiwa Jupiter) IM6 Check out the reviews on TW or anywhere.. the rod is great. Best bang for buck.. I'm loving it and using it even more than my Phenix rod. Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Walmart has Vendetta 2 rods on sale for $64 Quote

Best bang for buck.. I'm loving it and using it even more than my Phenix rod. Jupiter rods were $70 in the 3 stores I checked. I see they are on sale for $63 right now...at least Online. Don't know about in store. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Team Daiwa T from TW for $59 and change I think. Great rods at their retail price, a steal at that. Free shipping and no tax unless you are in CA. They are IM7 blanks, I believe the same rods as the old Daiwa Tierra only with updated hardware Fenwick Eagle is another one worth looking at in your price range. Quote
paleus Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 +1 for the Abu Vendetta. Definitely a steal at $64. Even at normal price ($80), it's still a great rod. I didn't know they were on sale at Walmart. I'll have to go grab one or two. Quote

Most walmarts are no longer carrying the jupiters (which are rebranded aird rods) so they should be on clearance if not soon. I got my Jupiter for $50 and change when it was on sale. The aird version can be had for cheaper on the internet. I prefer a silver rod instead of orange colored so I got the Jupiter.. then of course I had to get a spare cause I learned over the years that when you find something great, u buy 2. I love my Jupiter flippin stick.. LOVE These are of course IM6 and very sensitive and light with a good backbone.. perfect flipper.. and I toss my spinnerbaits on it as well. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted June 28, 2014 Super User Posted June 28, 2014 The Sellus is a good stick, you'd be happy with it Quote

I gave it to my girlfriend when I got my Crucials, but it's held up well and is well made for a $50 rod. There are plenty of good choices at your price point, especially if you can catch a good sale going on. I'd say a Veritas or even a Clarus on sale would be the way to go if you shop around. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 There is only one right answer. BPS Cranking Stick on sale for $60. They're not on sale right now, so you will have to do wait until they go on sale or fork out the extra $20 to get one sooner, rather than later. Quote
timsford Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 +1 on the team daiwa t rods. They are awesome at the 59 dollar sale price and have a 5 year warranty to boot. I have a powell deisel spinning rod im pretty fond of but havent tried the casting models. The academy h20 also gets good reviews. If i was gonna spend 60 on a new rod though id have to go with the daiwa t rod or maybe a veritas but all the reports of quality control issues has scared me away from them personally. Quote
jdl2425 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm gonna get the Abu Veritas (my friend owns one and loves it) or Daiwa t rod. Is tackle warehouse going to have a 4th of July sale? Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 30, 2014 Super User Posted June 30, 2014 Add me to the list of satisfied Daiwa T owners. Quote
