raoka Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Hello everyone^^ I will be fishing a club tournament on lake Champlain(Ticonderoga area) this Saturday and Sunday. It looks like there is heavy rain right now until tomorrow. The few days following how would you guys fish these conditions? Do you think a day of clear skies will have the fish back to normal patterns? The water will probably be a bit dirtier than usual for a few days right? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Quote
smallieking Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 well upstate new York is much different than the bodies of water here in pa I fish but I love to fish after a heavy rain storm. most of the lakes here are crystal clear and the fish live super deep, when it rains it puts color in the water and the bass move to shallow wood, most guys stay out deep on their spots but I follow the fish to the bank and I spinnerbait and flip jigs into banks with a lot of wood. I like to find a bank with a lot of cover close to deep water. all the lakes here are reservoirs so lots of rain results in current and it turns the fish on like crazy. When this happens the fish are moving in and out, coming up feeding and heading back so once I find a bank that produces I will stay there all day catching fresh fish. Quote
DILLY07 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Black and Chartreuse crankbait or squarebill or Blue and black soft plastic or jig. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted June 26, 2014 Super User Posted June 26, 2014 After heavy rains I always fish the bank.. Depending on how much of a rise the lake gets, just a couple inches helps the shallow bite, 12" sets the lake on fire! Mainly in mid spring. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 We had one hell of a storm blow in yesterday- didn't slow the biting down much at all. we were hitting the grass lines on the deep side and bet we caught 25 fish in about an hour. Good Fishing to ya!!! Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 When you ask if a day of clear skies will get things back to normal, you have to ask yourself what is normal? If it's clear skies and high off colored water then, maybe. You can't take just one condition and attempt to derive a justifyable answer. Take as many variables as you can into consideration whenever you go out and don't presume that any one of them is more important than the others. Sorry it sounds like I'm preaching a little, I'm really not. I just want you and others that are trying to learn more, to look at the whole picture and not make assumptions with little to back them up. 1 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Fished Champlain last week. There have been a bunch of club tourneys and opens there lately. It has been very tough for most. Water temps have been in the high 70's almost 80 degrees. Fish incoming water and deeper weeds. Quote

Fished it last week. I tried fishing frogs. That is an amazing bite and can be super fun. That being said all I caught on frogs were... big pike and the suck. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted June 26, 2014 Super User Posted June 26, 2014 Some areas are impacted worse than others. Areas which have become stained/dirty I would work the bottom more (jigs, heavy trig). Otherwise your "normal" approaches should work. Quote
