TaliskerStorm Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I just picked up bass fishing again. I used to fish a lot when I was about 16-17. I'm turning 26 now, and I want to become very familiar with tackle, before I get sucked into the never ending spiral of buying tons of lures that I will never use. I'm not looking to really do tournaments or anything, but I want to catch fish. I've been doing decent with worms, but I need to leave my comfort zone and pick up some new tools. So my question is this. If you had to master four lures, with presentations, and all depths, what would they be? Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted June 24, 2014 Super User Posted June 24, 2014 Jigs with a trailer, can be fished at most any depth T-rigged plastics, any depth Crankbaits, 1 foot to 20 foot depending on the bait Spinnerbait, swimjig, chatterbait, all can be worked at most any depth I could get a lot done with this group Quote

long island basser Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 For the mostly shallow ponds and lakes in my area my 4 would be and are..... Hollow body frog Jig with trailer Shallow crankbait T rigged any soft plastic weighted or not. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 24, 2014 Super User Posted June 24, 2014 , before I get sucked into the never ending spiral of buying tons of lures that I will never use. Dude, that´s part of the fun ! Okie dokie, for the sake of the argument: 3/8 oz single Tennessee ( or Colorado ) blade spinnerbait 1/2 oz lipless crank 6-7 inch straight tail worm 1/2 oz skirted jig With those I can catch fish anywhere. Tried to convince The BaitMonkey but he don´t understand nor bother to understand. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted June 25, 2014 Super User Posted June 25, 2014 Hello and Welcome to BR ~ As for mastering four lures, with presentations, and all depths, I'm still working on the Mastering part but here's my list; when you're talking green bass ~ 1/2 oz jig & craw Lipless Crank bait Drop Shot Hollow or solid body swim bait Now for the brownies ~ Jerk bait Spinner bait Drop shot Tube. jonnyblazex Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Texas rigged worm or craw Shaky head with finesse worm (if you cant catch them on this, nothing will) Topwater baits, Buzzbait, popper, walk baits, frogs etc. Weightless plastics, like flukes or worms Each requires a different setup (rod/reel/line) and technique however, for maximum performance. Super User J Francho Posted June 25, 2014 Super User Posted June 25, 2014 Spinner bait, arkey jig, traditional T-rigged craw, and some kind of finesses worm that could be rigged countless ways. Quote
Cgrinder Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 These are fun! For summer, I'd take: -a walking topwater, like a LC Gunfish. -a 5"-ish soft plastic swimbait on a weighted hook; Missile Baits Shockwave in Candygill works for me. -a 5" Senko-style bait, probably a Yum Dinger. -a Texas-rig with a craw or beaver; 1/4 oz. tungsten weight is a good starting point. Rage Craw, Paca Craw, Paca Punch, RI Sweet Beaver, Rage Bug; anything sort of compact and/or flappy. This way I've got something on top, something in the middle that swims and is relatively weedless, a bait that falls slowly, and a bait that falls quickly and has a profile that will penetrate cover. Honorable mention goes to the hollow-body frog. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted June 25, 2014 Super User Posted June 25, 2014 If a jerkbaits working that's what I'll use, the same with a Jig. You can have everything else! Those 2 baits can get me through most of the year and catch me some pretty nice fish! Quote
