Went to a river close by to do some trout fishing. Was drifting a wooly bugger fly under a float, right on a transition between very fast water and still water. Float shoots down, and I set into a nice rainbow. a minute later, I had him unhooked and was holding him up for a picture, and he almost flopped right into my shirt. Guess he was camera shy... About a half hour later, I hooked another rainbow, about the exact same size as the first, in the exact same spot. This time, I was drifting a 2" power minnow below a float. Got this one in, and he was a lot calmer. Next fish came 10 mins later, when as I was reeling in my rig to make another drift, a baby brown trout SLAMS my power minnow. Thinking it is a big rainbow, I set the hook hard, and he comes in relatively easy, only to come off right at my feet (I was wading). Next, I tied on a 1/16oz pink jighead with a 1" pink tube, trying to get into some browns in the still water. Pitched right up against the current line where I caught the 3 trout, and get slammed by none other than.... Mr Largemouth! I didn't even know that there were largemouth in the river! Was only about 1/2lb, but was all beat up,with a torn tail and fins, and a big scar down his side. Last fish came on the last drift of the day, this time on an egg pattern fly. Another baby brown, again, comes off right at my feet. Didn't catch a whole lot, but the rainbows were beautiful, and the bass was a nice surprise. Great couple hours down at the river.
