hoosierbass07 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 This is my second year bass fishing but I will admit I feel like a newbie. Last year I was bank fishing. This year I've been out on the water my kayak and so much more area to fish is open up to me. I'm a little overwhelmed. I feel like I'm learning to bass fish all over again. Anyway, I've been doing most of my fishing at a couple of strip pit ponds. I went out Sunday morning (9am to 12pm) and really noticed how much grass grows under the water. I worked the bank and did not have any luck. I only worked the bank. I did not see any big bass hanging around the bank though. I did see some small bass and junior bass hanging around the bank, but not big ones. Now I'm wondering - do big bass like to hang out in the grass during the summer? I don't have a fish finder on my kayak yet. So, how do you work the grass? Do I pick an area and simply work it, fan casting, then if nothing bites move to another area with grass? Can Texas rigged or split shot worms and soft plastics be used in the grass? Can I simply cast out a spinner bait and reel it in through the grass? What's the most effective way to fish the grass? Thanks 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 Sounds to me ya got it figured out! Grass will have an outside edge, try finding with bottom lures. This outside edge is where you want to start, then work shallower. You can throw most any technique & lure 2 Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 when you figure out how and where to always catch big bass, please tell me! Finding the big un is what bass fishing is all about! Quote
missouribigbass Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I like to to drag a t-rigged 10 inch ribbon tsiled worm through the grass. If that doesn't work ill find the grass line and fish a 1/2oz double blade spinner. I like the 1/2 oz because of the bigger blades they have more vibration and more reflection to draw bass out of the cover and strike. Those are the two most effective ways I've found to fish heavy grass. The 10inch worm and the 1/2 oz spinner will also entice the bigger fish which I'm assuming is what you're after. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted June 24, 2014 Super User Posted June 24, 2014 From a yak I like throwing a baby brush hog. 3/8oz at least. I work from the outside weed edge and in. Quote
