dam0007 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I need some shims to eat up play in a few handles after doing bearing upgrades. Does anyone know the size, material type(aluminum?) and where I can order them? Thanks! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 If you used the right size bearings in place of bushings there shouldn't be any need for spacers. I've had luck at Sears HW finding small hardware. I'd look for the thinnest copper spacers I could find. Quote

Definitely used the right sized bearings but some of the reels had 2 shims in 1 knob and 1 in the other. Or 1 in 1 and none in the other. All the knobs with 2 shims are fine. Unless I dropped them and didnt see them, thats my story Im sticking to. lol Quote
Hogsticker Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I've found that stock reel handles usually don't need extra shims. But, all the aftermarket handles I have ordered do. Quote
21farms Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 look for kyosho shim sets at your local hobby store or online. for shimanos and daiwas, you will want 5x7 shims and for lews/abu/pflueger/BPS/quantum, you will want 6x8. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 For the knobs I like stainless steel shims. I ordered mine from a shop that sells parts for rc helicopters. The 4x7x.5mm tail shims work. Quote
TiNuts Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Hedgehog studios has very thin shims/washers that I've used with success. Quote
Solution dam0007 Posted June 24, 2014 Author Solution Posted June 24, 2014 I called Shimano the other day they said they could only send me 2 anymore would be .99 each. Well just got about 30 from them in the mail. All set now! Quote
John G Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Not all Shimano's use the same size knob washer. For example, a Curado 50E washer is a bigger diameter than what comes on a Conquest 50. Quote

I wasn't trying to be critical or a know it all. I was just saying that some Shimano's use different size washers. I ran into this problem when I lost a washer for a CTE100GT handle. I tried using the CU50E washers and they did not work. I found out that the CTEGT handle uses the same washers as the Conquests do. I took a washer out of one of my Conquests and it was perfect. Shimano U.S.A. only sells complete handle assembly's for the GT's so I couldn't buy individual washers for the 100GT handle. I got Kayo with Japan Tackle to order me some from Shimano Japan when I made a reel purchase. I now have some spare GT/Conquest knob washers. http://forums.tackletour.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=54960 1 Quote
