Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 22, 2014 Super User Posted June 22, 2014 In the $149 range I have narrowed my choice to either the Daiwa Tatula 100 or Lew's Tournament Speed Spool - which do you prefer in 6:4 to 1 or 7:1 to 1 for the following applications : * Topwater * Jerkbait * Football Jigs * C-Rig / T-Rig * Spinner / Bladed / Swim Jigs * Pitching Soft Plastics At a quick glance I notice the Lew's has two addional ball bearings than the Daiwa while the Daiwa has the new : "T" Bar retrieve guide - any other features based on your experience that stand out between the two ? Thanks in advance ... Please Note : I don't do any cranking thus no need to share 5:4 to 1 ratio experiences for above ... Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Can you go wrong with either? Great choices. Quote
Grantman83 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Either will get you a great reel. I'm sure most will say the tatula because it is the latest and greatest. I would choose the tournament since I've had one and it was amazing Quote
ABW Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 You can get the Tatula Type R for around $150 in some places, and the Tournament Pro for around $150 aswell. For your applications I'd go with a 6.4:1 gear ratio for an all-around setup. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I've seen the type R available for $130 at some places. No contest in my mind. 1 Quote

timsford Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Check out ebay. Ive seen the tatula type r for 130 and lews tournament pro and bb1 pro for 150 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 Regular tatula can be had for $110-120 basically all day and the R model for $140-150. I've seen the tournament SS for about $120ish. I've owned both reels and whatever one you choose will be a great choice. Our site sponsor Ron from Valley Sports had them for $117. Not sure if that's still his price because I haven't bought a reel in a few months. I'd say check with him first and see what he can do for you. He also carries Lews. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 23, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2014 I appreciate the supplier / price direction ! Quote
