How is it going?

I was running and felt that urge and knew I wouldn't make it back. I had to take a dump in someone's back yard. lol

Wasn't the first time and I'm certain it won't be the last.

Thanks to my leg infection I lost a whopping 1lb cumulative. :(

However, I haven't done a dang thing exercise related since last Wednesday either. Now that I have been cleared by the doctor and they have cleared up I intend to start back this weekend.

I honestly debated bleach at one point.

Good luck man.  I have been riding my bike a good bit and not really doing much else and while i am not looking to lose weight per se, I have knocked off about 7-10 lbs.  I need to start supplementing though and see what that does as all I have been doing right now is egg protein powder shakes after a ride for recovery purposes.

Started weight training today. Old habits die hard, so I have decided to keep the weight training and include the cardio. I feel like a million bucks. I don't care if I get smaller or not. I like lifting too much to give it up. Its an addiction.

As my introductory day of lifting, here are my sets, weights, and reps.

Leg Press

3 sets

1 650lbs 15reps

2 700lbs 15reps

3 800lbs 10reps

I was worried about my hamstrings so I went with light weight. I actually enjoyed the high reps with the lighter weight, and may keep it incorporated. I'm definitely over heavy weight leg presses for a long time.

Bench Press

3 sets

1 225lbs 6reps

2 225lbs 6reps

3 240lbs 6reps

This was just for fun. I have other exercises I use for my chest. I rarely do bench press.

Curls (Barbell)

3 sets

1 75lbs 16reps

2 85lbs 14reps

3 75lbs 16reps

Again low weight high reps.

Shoulder Shrugs (Barbell)

1 315lbs 10reps

2 315lbs 12reps

3 330lbs 10reps

This is my all time favorite exercise. I love getting in front of the mirror and watching myself do this lift. I live for this lift!

Wrist Curls Dumbells

3sets

1 20lbs 18reps

2 15lbs 24reps

3 25lbs 14 reps

I was trying to find the right mix of weight and reps for these. It takes a lot of trial and error the first few times.

24in box, weighted, high steppers. (With weighted anchor chain.)

3sets 25 reps

1 85lbs 25reps

2 100lbs 25reps

3 100lbs 20reps

I failed on the last set. Utterly and miserably. I completely puked my guts up. Its about par for the course though with them. It is a complete and total cardio as well as leg work out rolled into one. It completely shreds fat and builds your legs. Its relatively fast paced, and quite intense. If your mind isn't right it will mess you up bad. This workout is part of the plyometrics style I have incorporated into my lifting.

All in all I would say that for just having a fun day lifting it went very well. Well update more as my workout finalizes and progresses.

Looks like a great total body workout. The weighted box steps can be very tough and you're right, your head has to be in it.

Last month I incorporated some plyo in my Tabata circuit training exercises and boy, they are challenging. you get a strength and a cardio in one.

Good luck bud!

I was taught different then you Raider. I was taught max weight fewer reps to start. Then decrease the weigh with more reps.

Nope that's how I was taught too. It works wonders for bulking up. Not so much for slimming down though.

Raider my insane friend, in what world are 800# leg presses considered light weight? If you are going anywhere near full range that is NOT light. Good luck buddy.

Just an aside about pushing the envelope: I was doing leg work with a guy who is much stronger than me in his upper body. He is as strong as a bull, and 72 years old. He could pass for a very fit 50. I can hold my own with him on legs though because of all the walking I do. I let my ego cause me to show off a little on the toe lifts and may have cracked something in my left foot. That was three weeks ago and my foot still hurts like a !*$#@. I will make a doctors appointment this week...

Back before I hurt myself I was reping 1200 to 1300 on leg presses. I injured myself doing a 1600lb 3 rep leg press. I knew something was wrong right after I racked the weights. Didn't really start hurting until the next morning. I learned my lesson about showing off and trying to keep up with the 20year olds I was lifting with.

That's rotten about the foot. I hope everything is OK with it.

Have you adjusted your diet or supplements?

Still doing the body for life diet. I'm still hesitant to add creatine yet though. Its honestly like working in a sauna at work right now. They just brought the offline boiler back online. So the temperature in the basement has skyrocketed. You easily sweat through what feels like 2 gallons of fluid a day. I don't want to dehydrate myself to that extent while taking creatine.

Otherwise supplements are the same. I will start adding whey protein next week.

Wow tree trunk legs

Impressive!

Why do you prefer leg press over squats?

In my opinion squats provide a higher chance for back injury then leg presses. I do squats every now and then to keep my workouts well rounded. However, I use lower weight when I do them. I do do hack squats pretty religiously though.

I used to live on the pec deck ,  scissor machine for your chest and stomach machine as well as for your biceps . The problem was I lived on it so much at one time I looked like an olympian from the waist up but had the bottom half of an 8 year old . So glad to see you're working your lower section as well .
