Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted June 22, 2014 Super User Posted June 22, 2014 Hell yeah boys and girls. It workout time again. That's right. Its time to get back into shape. My ham strings no longer bother me so its back to it. I have revamped my fitness goals and have a new plan. Instead of going for sheer mass, I'm going leaner and more athletic this go around. Low weight high reps, and copious amounts of cardio. Except for shoulder shrugs. Those will be high weight low reps. The whole mission is to lose fat this go around, not pile on muscle. That can wait til later. I'm super stoked about this new endeavor and will try an keep y'all updated. Also no doctors this go around. I've been loading supps for a week and a half and am ready to get to it! Current weight is 301lbs. Let's see if I can hit 250 by July 23rd! Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted June 22, 2014 Super User Posted June 22, 2014 Raider I like the new goals, although 51# in a month is a little nuts. From you I would expect nothing less! Good luck. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 22, 2014 Super User Posted June 22, 2014 Cool, I wish you nothing but the best of luck...go get em! I'm about 9 lbs from my weight loss goal of 36 lbs. I hit a bit of a plateau, but I feel great and will be giving my body a rest for the next 2 - 3 weeks or so. This plateau has been a real tough one, but I'm happy that I'm atleast tightening my belt an extra notch here an there. I would like to be able hit my weight loss goal by Labor Day. Good luck Bud! Super User fishinfiend Posted June 22, 2014 Super User Posted June 22, 2014 Set more realistic goal that don't endanger your health. 51 pounds in a month would probably be impossible. What kind of sups? I love the enthusiasm. Get it done, bro. I love to lift and run. On track to hit 100 miles for the month.I can't wait to hit chest and shoulders tomorrow and then run by the beach. 1 Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted June 22, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2014 51lbs in a month is very very very not likely to happen. I would rather reach for the sky and fail though. Its just how I operate. It motivates me to no end. Even knowing I can't achieve said goal motivates me to push harder. Then if I were to set something as simple as losing 15lbs or something like that. Thing is. I hate distance running. I've never been a fan of it. I'm hoping that will change this time though, now that I'm older. It seems like it would be fun to me now. Supplement wise I'm using Nitric Oxide and D-Aspartic Acid. No creatine this go around. I can't stay hydrated enough at work to use it. I might add some whey protein later on if I feel it will help. Thats all supplementing this go around. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 I lost fourty pounds in one month when I had pancreatitus and it wasn't pretty. But best of luck to ya in your adventure. I can hardly wait to work out some myself....but doc won't let me for another month or two. He kinda refuses to fix this big hernia...says I have to take it easy for the summer. But seriously...good luck and be carefull. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 Get to love running as it offers a great benefit to cardiovascular health and will most certainly help you lose weight. I love the mental toughness it requires and runner's high is indescribable. In about 4-7 minutes, i'm in heaven. I look forward to hearing of your progress. The gift of health is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. I do not miss being a big boy AT ALL! Quote

I would strongly encourage you NOT to run; on the road especially. At your stated body weight, exercise of no or low impact would be much safer and something you can & will be able to be faithful to. A Bike, a treadmill or a pool comes to mind. And btw - NOW is the time to modify your body composition. It doesn't get any easier as you get older. You're eventually discover that as your life progresses, lifting buildings isn't really that important, but being able to get up and down the stairs is. Good Luck A-Jay 1 Quote

No I didn't. You know exactly what I'm saying. And I say it because I care Raider. If you are serious about modifying your body composition, resistance training (even low weight high reps) is not your best tool especially for a man who is looking to eliminate 50 lbs of body fat. Distance Running means something different to everyone, but at your present body weight, you are just asking for trouble. Why risk injury? Running has it's benefits, but you'd be better served by modifying your diet and not beating yourself up by running. Select an activity that will safely allow you to burn calories. Speed walking works well, isn't a macho as running, but it's just as effective and a whole lot safer. And a Heart monitor is your friend here as well. A-Jay 2 Quote

Running I believe was the wrong choice of word to use. Jogging and speed walking sound more like I was talking about. Nice steady pace. I'm not aiming to run marathons or 5ks or anything of the type. My body is large enough that running on asphalt hurts my knees. Jogging on asphalt doesn't exactly make them feel great either. I'm not built for speed and never have been. I do enjoy doing agility drills and what have you in the grass. However, that about the fastest I'm going to move and thats short bursts. Those drills really have no bearing other than I've just always loved doing them.Good call on the swimming too. I will be doing a lot of that this summer. I can't help but do weight training its my all time favorite activity. Most all the weight training I'm doing this go around is gonna be three or four exercises on the Smith Machine. Other than that its, my tractor tire and sledge hammer, and then shoulder shrugs. Mainly just cause I like looking at myself while doing shrugs. Its an ego trip for me. Diet has been completely reworked as well. Body for Life diet again. It gives me a nice starting point. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 If you're doing a Body For Life diet, check out the body for life treadmill cardio. Low impact HIIT workout. I mixed those in when my son's baseball season was in full swing. It's a great way to end your workout session. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 23, 2014 Super User Posted June 23, 2014 Raider I'll add one more endorsement of speed walking. When I first started my fitness journey a casual stroll up a small hill felt like sprinting. Now after 28 months of working on it, I have started speed walking. The outer half of my left knee is artificial, and running is just not a good option. I will be the first to admit that it does look silly, but I'm guessing you're big enough that none of the neighbor kids will take your lunch money. You can get a very serious workout doing it. Maintaining good form works your upper body and core as well. Finding interesting places to walk is also helpful. I am lucky to have some bluff trails in my area that challenge me physically and are more enjoyable than pounding down the road. Good luck man. 2 Quote

Nice_Bass Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I recently joined a new cult and I hate to say it is what I have been looking for now that I am done with competitive sports and only play recreationally now... ...cross fit... I still am not interested in their vernacular or extreme devotion to anything cross fit however working hard is oddly fun for me. good luck to ya. 1 Quote

I mean I get my jollys beating the hell out of a tractor tire with a 25lb sledge hammer, war hammer apparently being the "proper" name. I still think it looks like a sledge hammer. Different strokes for different folks. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted June 24, 2014 Super User Posted June 24, 2014 You can definitely improve fitness doing cross fit, but those pull-ups…lol what a joke hahahaha!!! Quote
speed craw Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Raider short of you meeting the witch doctor from thinner or having an exorcism , lord we wish . Youre goals are unrealistic , try to average a few lbs a week or every other week . Take your time , much healthier that way and try to find a friend to workout with . Helps a lot with motivation , plus the energy .... after a few months post some pics so we can all see your progress. 1 Quote
