I noticed these are on sale at TW. I was going 2 get the tatula which is a lot cheaper but then I saw the zillion, zillion type r and crazy crankers were all on sale. What's the best value?

I've bought 2 Zillions for $199 that were brand new in box. One from BPS last year, and this spring and my local tackle shop.

I would look around if you are interested in a Zillion. The great deal for a Daiwa at TW is the T3 and T3 Ballistic on clearance.

Wait if you can for another 2 weeks. They should get pumped down just before Icast opens and Daiwa releases the all new Zillion.

I feel the Zillion is the better value. It's a tank of a reel that will last forever and there are a ton of upgrades available for the reel. In my opinion it's a very good reel stock but with $100 in upgrades it can be a great reel. A spool from a TD-Z 100 and a good set of bearings and you've got yourself a great multi purpose reel that will last. The jury is still out as for the Tatula's durability but I'm seeing a lot of posts regarding braid grooving the sway bar and that would worry me. My vote is Zillion

I haven't as yet used a Tatula.  However, I do have 3 Zillions of various models.  My 50th Anniversary is one of my favorite reels.  It is one of the few reels I have that I "sat and forgot" regardless of lure weight or wind conditions.  Can't say that about my 100SHLA...yet...may not have it dialed in good enough yet.   My 3rd Zillion hasn't seen enough use yet to make assumptions about.  People complain about their weight (but apparently don't mind the same weight in a spinning reel  :teeth: ), but it never bothers me, and I am older than 99% of the posters.  :sad78:

They are rock solid reels that perform very well.  If the price goes down enough, I will be forced to buy one or two more even though I already have more reels than I need.

I have the zillion and the tatula, if I were to buy new reel right now I'd get the tatula. I don't feel like the zillion is any better, never mind being 100$ better.

Also since the zillion is on sale I would imagine that a new zillion may be in the works.

For those who are living in the dark, it has been confirmed Daiwa is releasing a new Zillion. It was on the Dev page. As for the t wing grooving.... Aye yi yi people

There's just something about a zillion. To me they palm perfectly, cast phenomenally, retrieve smoothly, and are all around workhorses. They can do dang near anything you could want them to do right out of the box. Then you can go above and beyond and replace bearings and spools and then you've got an absolute animal. Just my .02

Zillion. Got a coastal, 2 50th anniversary, and a type r. Palm amazingly, tons of upgrades and rock solid. I sold my tatula before casting it because I hate how it palmed for me. I'm sure it's a great reel but I just couldn't make the switch even though it would have saved me a ton of money

Tatula casts much better IMO. I have used them side by side and the only thing the zillion excelled in was ease of casting for short distances. I am guessing this is due to the lighter spool and free floating spool.

I own both, I prefer the Zillion, but not by much,  the Tatula is in my opinion is the better value, but there is something about a Zillion that makes it special.

The Zillion is a much, much better reel and on sale, hell, it´s a no brainer !

I own both. My zillion has the 100 m spool and boca os7 bearings. Plus a hawgtech handle but that really doesn't do anything per say. I love the reel and it's great at anything I use it for. Casts good, looks good, smooth, and palms good. The negative is that it's another $100 for those parts which brought my reel to $300 plus the $79 handle. I don't feel that it's a $300 reel. Maybe I'm just a tight wad I don't know. The tatula casts good, looks good,is butter smooth and palms ok for me. It's nowhere close to the way the zillion feels in my hand though. It's 100% stock and is right there with the zillions performance. Would I buy another zillion. Yes,absolutely but it'd have to be a good deal. Not sure if this will actually help you decide but it's just my .02 for what it's worth.

Sounds like you guys who like or are torn between the Tatula and Zillion will get the best of both worlds soon enough. The new reel sounds like it's going to have a frame similar to the Tatula with a T Wing, but should utilize better quality parts and guts. Free floating spool too rather than the long shaft. Should be a really nice reel. I still for the life of me can't figure out why Daiwa hasn't produced an aluminum version of the T3 without the hood. A metal reel with the 1016 spool and 3D braking would be killer. I'm waiting to see what the new Zillion is like, but if it shares a frame with the Tatula and retails for 300 bucks, I'm likely gonna spend the 300 on an SS SV instead. If the SS SV had 3D braking it would be close to perfect. Sorry for getting off topic.

It looks pretty nice! I don't know what it's going to cost but it is definitely sweet!

New Zillion will have the TWS line guide which some have had troubles with.  It will also have a Zaion gear side plate according to Daiwa.  Many will not like that.  Why buy a NOS Zillion even though it is tempting, as the supply of parts will dwindle to nothing by the time you need something.  Especially when walmart.com has the new Tatula for $104 and the fancier Tatula for $139.
