So I saw RoadWarrior, in the "Got 50 To Spend" thread, mention he has been jika rigging and having great success with it. Anybody have any information on this rig as well as the pro's and cons?

Hopefully RW can post some insight in this, it seems like a great concept.

Yea, it will be interesting to see what RW will have to say. My guess is it's something the Japanese Bassers have been using for a while.

Once you see one, it is pretty easy to make your own.   There isn't really any special way to fish it.  If you can fish a texas rig, you can fish a jika rig.  For a summer presentation option, I focus on the deep weed lines of main lake and larger secondary points.  My home made ones are pretty heavy - between 14 and 20 grams (thats roughly between a half and three quarter ounce)  Because it is for the most part a bottom presentation, I don't see any reason to wait for a 3/8 or 1/4 oz bait to reach the bottom.

I don't know if there are any cons to jika rigs.  They are a tool like many other presentations, try them and if they don't work for you, try something different.

In place of the split ring on the weight, try a Norman's speed clip and when using the speed clip you can change out your weights in seconds! I have been doing this for over a year now with no problems. It works like a charm. No more split ring pliers.

Only problem with JIKA rig is throwing it places with soft bottoms and a lot of slop.

Seems to pick it all up and you have only a few feet of good action before it fails and you have to reel in and clear off the ****.

Otherwise it is a good bait for bottom fishing.

Can the Jiki rig be used in shallow water, so a few feet deep or is it best used in a little more deeper water?

Yes.  The attitude of the plasic is similar to a shakey head jig in that it stands upright. The added bonus is the independence of the weight in relation to the bait giving the bait the freedom of movement even when the weight is stationary.

I use it on my 12" worms and the Manns big jelly in the 25' fow.  Successful...  5lbs 18" bass pretty regularly...  I like eyedabassman's clip idea...  Don't know why I didnt think of it, I have a bunch in my tool box and I never use them....
