How often do you guys change spark plugs? I have an older 2 stroke without oil injection so I assume I need to replace plugs more often than newer engines?

I'm in the same boat with my new (older) boat. Guy at the shop said every 2 years is fine.

I change mine every 100 hours.  When I had a 2 stroke carbed engine I changed every year.

I do it as a part of annual maintenance. But I'm a weekend warrior. If you fish several days throughout the week, maybe every 100 hours or so.

I have a 96 Merc 2 stroke, I change my plugs every year when I bring my boat out of winterization. They only cost a few bucks and it takes 5 minutes to swap them out. Thats just a part of my annual service, you can call the manufacturer and they can tell you exactly when they recommend, but the most common answers you'll get are every year, or every 100 hours.

Annually.  Been doing it that way for over 3 decades.

every year ?

seems like a waste of money to me...... I always been in the "change them when you need to" camp.

maybe I been wrong.

but every year for most fishermen is WAY overkill, I think most people would be surprised on how little hours they put on thier outboard.

Maybe I am wrong????

Was talkn with a buddy the other day about motor break in proceedures and how most call for 10hrs +. 10 hrs is a lot of running an outboard for a bass fisherman, if you run it an hour a day id be surprised.

When I get the Mercury winterized and serviced each year.

I change them after I burn off the fogging oil from the winterizing. They are pretty nasty after all that. I clean the old ones, shrink wrap them, and keep them in the boat in case I fry one on the water.

well that makes sense. we don't "winterize" down here, we fish! LOL
