I buy many more rods than Reels. I've tried almost every brand of fishing Rods through the last few years, just trying to find what I thought was the best. I enjoy buying reels too but I think the Rod is leaps and bounds more important. If I only had say $200 to spend, I'm spending like $150 on the Rod and $50 on the Reel, the rod is that important. I've got to be able to feel what is going on under the water and the reel can't do that for me.

I like reels as well because I love to take them apart look at how they look and see how they compare to different reels from the inside. Then i like to free spool and turn the handles for hours. I also like how I can customize to make them better or more personal. I like rods to but I will hold it and play with it for an hour or two but then i begin to get bored with it until I hit the water

The question was, "Do you get more satisfaction from buying",

Yes, I certainly do.

I get the most satisfaction from having a custom rod built exactly the way I want it. Its kinda cool hooking up with fish on your special stick. You can choose your thread colors and how you want them laid out and presented. You can get the exact guides and guide train you want. Pick your blank, handle and reel seat. Now that's satisfying and exciting, and a tool that you can't pick up off the shelf.

Secondly, I'm a goober. I get satisfaction from pimping my reels. I just like to make it look different than when it comes out of the box. I figure I'm already spending 250 bucks on a reel, so why not dress it up and give it a nickname?? No, but the satisfaction of it is fishing it. Hedgehog seems to be doing pretty well, so I know I'm not the only crazy B@5t&rd

I love getting new reels. Unboxing them and feeling that new reel smoothness can't be beat. I also like cleaning them out of excess grease and making them even smoother.
