BuckMaxx Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 So lets here the skinny from the guys that own them. Do they work? Are they worth the money or just another gimmick? They have me wondering if I should invest in one or use my $400 somewhere else? Thanks Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 19, 2014 Super User Posted June 19, 2014 I have the original BSX model and I cannot say for sure it attracts bass or any other fish. Maybe the new ones do a better job. KVD has a financial interest in the Hydrowave so although I think the world of him I cannot take his word on the Hydrowave as he is not impartial. He says he uses the Hydrowave and it works. Sorry, I can't agree at this time with his statement. Looking forward to reading what the guys and gals say on this topic. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I have one and when its on I catch fish. The trick is to find some bait fish and use the passive setting. I find when fish are stuck to the bottom and not biting I can turn on the fleeting shad setting and use the intermittent setting on a low volume setting and get the fish moving around. Yes it works but its not the magic bullet to guarantee fish every time. Just another tool in the arsenal. It works really well for crappie fishing at night along with a green lamp. Huge schools of shad circling the boat- it can make one motion sick watching them swim around and around... I recommend it to ya! Quote
jcoholich Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I have one that I have been using for 2 years in tournament fishing. In my experience I have been doing better since adding this unit to my boat. I have had instances where I watched fish come up on Sonar to the bottom of my trolling motor where I have the speaker mounted and follow under my boat. I am not 100 percent sure it works but I have had positive results since I put the hydrowave on my boat. Quote

Slade House Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 iuve been using one for 6 months about 5 days a week and I can say that yeah it works, and yeah invest the money (get the original model , not the KVD model cause you can get the kvd sounds as an expansion pack.) i currently have the baitfish, the KVD, and the crawfish expansion pack. I recently had to go without my hydrowave as i had to send it in for service (somehow i hoooked it up to 24 volts instead of 12) and personally called the owner of the company , tim?, on a saturday and i got him to help me out while he was at his daughter's softball game. they ended up shipping me a new unit. the 3 weeks i went without it reminded me of how it actually does work because my fish caught dropped by 50%. the post above about shad circling the boat, ive had a similar experience, and that's important to note , is that it will have an effect on the baitfish as well as the bass. personally my favorite sounds are the shad frenzy, KVD's "power pattern" and "schooling blitz" , crawfish sand frenzy, and the baitfish's "baitball" (the baitfish expansion pack is killer) . All the people who say it does work, why would we all lie about it? Quote
BuckMaxx Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 Well I put one on my boat tonight. I listened to the sounds and to my ears I couldn't help but thinking... I just spent a chunk on this gimmick? Something about it has always intrigued me. I have been a coyote hunter for along time and have seen what catching a coyote in the right mood can do to an electronic caller. I have the scars to prove it. I see this is real similar. We are fishing an over night smalley tournament this weekend and I am anxious to turn it on. This particular lake gives us all fits when they go back down during the late summer. It is loaded with bait balls (shad and smelt) The smalleys hang on the bottom, in the rocks. I was hoping by using my electronics, it would pull them up off the bottom and expose themselves to be dropshotted. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 major difference in price. Thoughts ? will the basic do the same just with only 2 sounds and not expandable ? anyone with experience ? between the 2 ? same power ? http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/search.cmd?form_state=searchForm&N=0&fsch=true&Ntk=AllProducts&Ntt=hydrowave&x=10&y=6&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products Quote
Al Wolbach Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I fished a tournament series in a boat that had one and could not tell any difference. We always ran it but who knows....I believe you could spend your money smarter to aid your fishing success. I prefer to see or feel results, jmho. Quote

I have seen fish closer to the boat than before, but, I mounted it permantly because I use it trolling and didn't want it banging around. With the speaker in the water some 3 feet below me, I can't hear how loud it is. I would buy the next model up if someone was willing to buy the portable one I have for $75. At the dock, in a slip, it sure raises the interest of other fish. Edd Quote
