jigabooyah Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I am wanting to fish for smallmouth in the local Rivers in Missouri. Wanting to go to the Big river or the Big Piney river. I have read that the piney is clear and I know the Big is murky. Please fill me in on good baits to use and/or techniques/strategy. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted June 18, 2014 Super User Posted June 18, 2014 Fish the clear water with senkos, enough weight to keep them drifting on the bottom, you'll knock 'um dead. Texas rigged craws, small jigs with craw trailers, and texas rigged worms are all great clear water baits in rivers. I have very limited experience with smallies in dirty water, but I prefer clear 10 to 1. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 18, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 18, 2014 Small craws and finesse worms on shakyheads catch a majority of my Ozark stream smallies. A fluke and Sammy style bait will get them really good too, as will a tube. Pretty much just target current breaks and seams and you'll find the fish. 1 Quote
