Hi everyone, long time no talk on here. Been busy as heck but I've come in contact with a major problem. I bought my friend a 7.1:1 brand we PQ on Christmas for 80$ and the reel Isnt working right. The problem is when you take out the spool on the side where the reel is, inside where the spool shaft goes into the gears. That little gold but or peice isn't securely in there. If I push the spool in hard and hold it the reel is smooth as butter, if not it almost clunks every so often. Any help on what to do? Or how to fix it? I can't find a schematic online to show you exactly what piece but ill post a picture after work. Thanks everyone !

That gold piece is the bottom of the pinion gear. It rides in a yoke and has spring tension on it. It's not meant to be rigid. Without the other side plate in place it will slip. Does it act ok when it's all assembled? From what I get from the post what you're seeing is just what I'd expect. If the reel chatters when re-engaging the spool the pinion or spool pin may be damaged or the clutch is sticking inside.

The reel I bought offline not local... The reel when all assembled feels good for 3/4 each turn of the reel then it feels like it clunks or is hard to turn. What's the way I could fix this? Is my reel shot? Will BPS exchange it?? I really hope this isn't a dud reel becsuse I went out I my way to get this for my friend. Thanks for the help!

Have you ever done that "spin test" thing where you spin the handle really fast then slam the thumb bar down to see how long the spool will spin?

"That little gold piece" is called the pinion gear, one of the most important pieces to the reel. It isn't secure because the PQ is a pure fishing cookie cutter reel, and like all the lew's/Abu/Pflueger reels, it does not have any bearings on the pinion gear. It isn't secure because it can wobble around loosely in the yoke unless the spool shaft is keeping it inline.

My phone sucks so sorry for it being blurry... Its that gold piece right in the middle where the spool shaft goes it.. Any idea what it'll cost me?? Since my buddy is out a reel i'll just trade him one of mine and try to get this sent to DVT to be fixxed... Just wondering how much to expect ..

If you purchased the reel from BPS online then they should give you a new one at the local BPS.

That's your pinion gear. The part should be like $5-10. I'd send it to Mike/DVT and he will take care of you.
